Carter is smart and skilled. Obviously age is his biggest issue and less minutes on the 4th line, less demanding minutes like on the pk and playing centre, and I still think he can be effective. I’d his play starts to diminish after 20-30 games I rotate in someone else for a couple weeks to give them some exp, give Carter a break.

Would still rather give a prospect a chance. And his contract is really the big issue. Even if he was on a vet min contract I’d be fine. If we could have had Tatar for 2-2.5m that could allow someone better like rust to play on the 3rd line to support doc and create offence.

I still truly believe putting him infront on the 1st pp improves the 1st pp and redeems some value out of the 3 million he will take up.

They can try it, that's for sure. And I would be trying it right now while Jake is out. Thing is they've barely used him on the top PP when we first got him so I don't see them doing it now.

From practice today, looks like Z will get the next shot next to Malkin. If so, I'd like to see Nylander on the third and Nieto back on the fourth. But Nylander and Hinostroza weren't on line rushes.

Also 3g 2a for Yager his first 2 games. Needs his goal scoring to shoot to 40 if not 50 to show last season was an aberration, which is a bet I'm glad they made.

Well it takes some balls and mental fortitude to make a move like that. Sully has neither.

Should have just kept Yager and played him here.

It probably was because yager said he was trying to round out his game and focus on playmaking last year.

I agree I think that work will pay off. Too many wait until after juniors or even AHL to round out there games, and not a lot of players can make it just on offense.

Even with that, he was still getting his shots, just a little snake bitten. I think this pick is going to look great in a few months.

Hope so Tojo. When does Juniors season end? After they are over he can come up, right?

WHL season will end around March 25ish, depending on playoffs then he could suit up in the AHL.

Depends on how you look at it. If the talent in those leagues are depleted it’s no longer a great development league for undrafted players.

Yea I'm not too worried about that league, maybe some are. Wouldn't the AHL/ECHL just get better?

You'd probably have issues with 19 year olds wanting to turn pro before they were ready just to burn a year off their ELCs. You got more tough guys in the AHL then the NHL these days so you have to be physically mature for that. It's kind of rare for 18, 19 year olds to be physically mature enough to play in the A and have developed as much as they can in juniors, but not be NHL ready. Yager isn't there yet, we want him to put up a dominant offensive season first.

Fair point, I think it's more me looking for actual depth scoring, but that could be a possibility at years end before playoffs if he plays that good.
