He’s going up against guys on other teams half assing it or not playing sharp. Hes looked great don’t get me wrong I just think you can’t over rate it

UPL wasn't bad, he just was the normal UPL. Nothing clutch....Sv% around .875, give up his normal 4 goals. Not good enough. So were a lot of Sabres last night

because he's a snail moving side to side. and when he does he's off balance half the time it seems like.

It's not apples to apples, but I've certainly enjoyed :

"Benson looks awesome, he's making the team"

...Player x looks bad....

What does matter is how fringe prospects and players can handle themselves vs other NHL players.

I think you can surmise that Zach Benson's performance is one of the few useful things we should be pulling from camp. Along with Ryan Johnson at this point.

Experimentation with lines shows what a potential line can do if injuries surface.

Like faceoffs, sometimes preseason matters, in certain ways for certain players.

The biggest difference I notice when watching Levi play vs UPL is that Levi moves side to side so much better. He’s almost always squared up to cross ice pass/shot.

By contrast, IF UPL gets over in time it’s desperation.

The only position group that matters as a whole in late-preseason is goalies.

They either perform or they don't vs NHL level comp. Patrick Laine shooting the puck last night vs next week is not going to change.

What will change is the pressure put on him and the defensive pairs covering him.
