Really, cause they weren't regular season games that makes it alright for Clifton not to give his best and learn a new team amd system. Sorry the Penguins treated there game as a primer to the regular season and Oh well the Sabres didn't have to try cause it was only preseason. Sabres are a young team, effort should not be a problem even for preseason, especially the last couple games when teams are starting to suit up close to there roster.

There was a time players used exhibition games to get in shape for the regular season. No longer the case. These games are meant to not only compete vs the other team but compete for a job, your livelihood. Poor efforts in exhibition games goes a long way towards showing what you're made of. If you can't get up and have your best effort to compete for your job how could anyone expect more from you in a regular season game when the heat goes up. Then playoffs when it goes up another notch or two.
These games matter for everyone, trust me. I'm no NHL player but I do play one on the internet at times.

My theory, which is 100% as substantiated as any of the "we're screwed/the gm is a dope" talk that goes on here, is that he coach simply told his players to get through the preseason without anyone getting hurt. All the pearl clutching and hand-wringing done here is just bored folks playing with yourselves. The blue and gold lube is strong.
