Same. I don't know how people that follow all the major team sports do it. I catch a couple halfs of football a season, other than that I watch cycling and fishing videos on youtube. If remote control car racing or ping pong is on I'll watch that for a few minutes. Oh and I like watching horse races live but I don't follow it. I just bet on whatever horse' name has something to do with cheese.
- Zezel

I'll watch occasional highlights, if they are outstanding, unusual, or record-setting in some way.

I don't give a poop about the Olympics, but if some human rocket blows away the sprinting record or something, I wanna watch the video of it. If some beast of man who did the Skalapy workout breaks the world deadlift record, I wanna see it.

Bench clearing brawl in baseball? Count me in.

Spectacular exploding flaming wreck in Indy or Nascar, count me in.

Full-court buzzer beater for the NBA championship, I wanna see it.

Full-court buzzer beater in a nothing game in a nothing league, I don't care.

poop, I'm getting to a point where I could skip most of the NHL regular season and just get to the post-deadline playoff positioning battles. Almost everything before Xmas is just a bunch of wishful thinking before the games that really matter.

I don't follow all the major leagues, but I do watch a helluva lot of sports.

So to answer your question, I don't really watch any other TV, unless it's with my wife or with wife and kids.

In the past five years, about the only shows I've watched:

With the whole family:

Derry Girls
Schitt's Creek
Superstore
Ted Lasso
A little bit of Brooklyn 99

With the wife:

Ozarks (until she watched epidodes ahead of me, and I abandoned it)
The Bear (she's watched all of season 2, I'm at the end of season 1).

I think that's about it.

Which is really franking weird, considering we went through COVID.

For those of you who are subscribers to the Athletic, there's a great article today about how it's tough getting sent down to the AHL:

When NHL players get sent down, it’s like going from steak to chicken fingers

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Domi Tavares Nylander
Knies Minten Jarnkrok 🧐

- mr.sir

I am confused about what they are doing and not doing right now.

Of the waiver ineligible players on their roster, excluding Martin Jones (who I am loathe to say has played well enough in preseason to deserve a spot over Woll, but realistically has not played well enough since 2017 to deserve that exception) and Knies who should make the roster, we have:

Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Bertuzzi, Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Reaves, Lafferty, Knies and Robertson (12 forwards)

and

Rielly, Brodie, McCabe, Klingberg, Liljegren, Giordano and Timmins (7 defense)

to go with Samsonov and Woll.

With LTIR considerations, that still puts us at least $493,950 over the cap.

If they waive Timmins, they'll regret it - he's likely better than Giordano (at this stage), Klingberg or McCabe. But now they're talking about how Minten has a chance of making the roster. Over Robertson? Over who? Minten still makes $845k which is more than Robertson but less than everyone else.

Is the plan to waive Timmins, keep Minten? Waive Robertson and also Timmins and keep Minten?

I don't see the easy solution for this roster outside of trying to move Jarnkrok. And this entire conversation ignores that Noah Gregor has definitely impressed at camp while being lined up with guys who haven't really done much to help elevate his camp (Kampf, Reaves and Holmberg).

Is there a camp injury I'm unaware of? Klingberg is expected to be back before LTIR would be applicable, so that's not going to forestall any decisions . . .

I'm similar in that I basically don't watch TV. I watched the Good Place and The Mandalorian recently, but other than that nothing. I'm more likely to read or listen to books.

Let me address the elephant in the room:

Is Giordano really worth a roster spot this year?

And surprisingly he was wrong again.

With the decisions they made and timely hitting they would have lost against the A's.

Really unfortunate all around, had the easier path and still blew it.

Yeah, I'll watch highlights like that too. Or if the winter Olympics are on I'll take a look at the downhill skiing or ice skating just because I do those things and watching the experts is amazing. Kitten fights on youtube is better than most televised sports.

I don't watch a ton of TV, but I am a nerd at my core, so I do watch things on my own when I can - like The Boys or Star Trek - but I'm really far behind in my nerd cred - like most Star Wars series (Andor, Obiwan, Ahsoka and even Mandalorian S3) and a few Marvel series remain unwatched.

Of those above, I don't know what Derry Girls or The Bear are. I've watched all of Brooklyn 99 - but that was when it was on. The three SNL series: 30 Rock, Parks and Rec and Brooklyn 99 all have excellent casts and superior writing that just paying attention to the dialogue has great subtleties that are often missed.

I haven't watched Lasso S3 yet, but we like it. And we got roped into Ozark by people telling us it was great - but it was mostly boring as Hell with the occasional good or shocking moment. Because we hadn't watched it while it was on, my wife and I did Breaking Bad recently. It was good but because it was so bloody hyped by everyone, it never came close to the build up it was given!

If you rest his old bones from time to time he should be able to give you decent third pair minutes.

But at that point in his career, he could also fall off a cliff and be terrible. It happened to many great players. Remember Dan Boyle?

It's a fair question. I'm guessing if we play him as a third pairing guy - and at $800k that's perfectly fine - and he's smart enough and self aware enough to contain his play, be a solid pivot with a more mobile partner and I think he's probably not as much of a liability as some of the other options (in the same price range) we'd get. Like I think he's a better option than Niemela, Benoit or Kokkonen at the moment.

I guess ultimately, my answer would be that the $800k is low enough that it buys him a lot of leeway.

I’d rather give a young guy 82 games of third pairing duty than a 40 year old 50 games of third pairing duty.

Can’t Reaves do “wily vet in the dressing room” duty by himself?

well of course you would rather be tied than losing.
we dont know what would have happened if they left Berrios in. so not much point debating it. The Jays didnt score. so even if they were only able to get 1 run...they still lose

- senstroll

Obviously Berrios was not gonna score any runs for the Jays.

But pulling the guy you started in game 2 of Playoffs after 3 innings when he was pitching well was a terrible plan. Just because they planned for a move like that doesn't mean they should have implemented it.

Management should let the guy close to the game - Schneider - make those decisions, not some pencil-pushing geek high up in some office.

Also, time for the jays to move on from celebrating like crazy for simply "making"....or really getting lucky to get into the playoffs.
Have a few pops sure, but no more of this over the top party celebration. Its embarrassing, specially when you get in 28 hrs.
Ok moving on.

- Fakepartofme

Sick of hearing how pitiching and defence win championships. Jays saved money at the TDL by not adding a clutch hitter. Manager and batting coach should both be fired into the sun. Jays need to simplify batting - sick of the "be agressive approach" - Jays are strikeout kings as a result, "be patient approach" worked for the Twins. Also, Vladdy needs to wake the (frank) up, watching a 70 mph fartball fired over the heart of the plate, fall behind and then swing wildly at a pitch 3 feet off the plate. Hitters did nothing in the last month, Jays backed into the playoffs and celebrated getting in after a couple of humiliating losses. Give Vladdy one more season - if he can produce, especially when important then sign him otherwise trade him. The Varsho trade looking bleak after the first season, not likely to get better as Moreno becomes the best catcher in the Major Leagues and we are stuck with Kirk who has become an automatic double play regularly.
