The Flyers will get more goals from their forward group and their special teams will improve. I think the goalies will be very good this year and the overall team defense will be better with good gaps and back pressure. Thus I think they will exceed 75 points, which honestly I think is the worst thing for them this year, but it is what it is. The Flyers will better than some people think. - jd250
Offense in today's NHL is greatly dependent on the team's defense and ability to transition the puck and create possession and zone attack time. The Flyers don't have that. The loss of Provorov, despite the poor on ice results, will weaken their ability to defend further. The system and style of play that Tortorella has the team play, is not conducive to good gaps and back pressure. Last year, the Flyers added a high level offensive defenseman for the PP in Angelo. What were the results on the PP? League worst. Who is the defenseman that is going to be the shut down defenseman on the PK on this team? Who are the elite PK forwards to boost this team's PK? Should we expect Hart and Ersson to stand on their heads all season long? One can look at it with hopes and giggles and just say it's going to be improved. I need more than that and some legitimate reason why it's going to be better.

Depends on whether the blueline comes together. That's my big concern. It's a deep forward group although there are no superstars. Should have good goaltending. But the blueline is worrisome. That will be what determines whether they can better last season's 75 points.
I'm not expecting miracles. I think they'll score a bit more. But the GAA could also go up, and it wasn't great to begin with. - bmeltzer
The biggest factor for me is going to be injuries again...who and how long will determine their struggles.
I have no clue how the defense will come together, hopefully the forwards do a better job. Either way all the goals will be Hart's fault...because Flyer fan reasons.
Also when is this report going to come out for the Canadian Hockey scandal? I am so sick of seeing Hart being tagged as guilty when no info has come out to even link him...but people are gonna assume and you know what they say about assumptions.

The defense is missing the two dmen who gave up the most ES and 5on5 goals against per hour last season. Addition by subtraction.

You also need to factor in zone starts and quality of competition. More d-zone starts = more goals against and fewer goals for. Opposite for more o-zone starts. For QoC, who’s better, the the guy giving up 3.0 goals/60 vs top line competition or the guy giving up 2.9 goals/60 vs low line competition? |

Angelo was as sheltered as they could manage and he still got his doors blown off.

agree with some of this, but their gaps have been terrible for close to a decade. his system is the absolute least of their worries.
seems to me the greater concern w Torts is he will actually squeeze more wins out of this group than we would like during the rebuild. thats kinda telling on what the fanbase actually thinks about his potential impact.
if there are concerns about how he deals w vets thats valid, but he is pro - give a young guy a chance guy - as was proven last year and during his career. he was the first to preach youth here since his initial media conf a year ago june and that continues with almost every interview.
provy hasnt played well since pre-covid. i love the guy, but eventually he had to move on and that move made perfect sense considering where this team is at today. coach liked him too. ya just gotta move some of the old guard out of the room when your focusing on youth. really cant speak too poorly about provy. hes a warrior and i think a winner. hayes on the other hand makes Bobby Abreu look unselfish. at the end of the day, 3 personalities needed to move on and that happened. |

Unfortunately you have to pick one or the other of Forester/Brink. You can't have the other dragging his knuckles with the other cro mags on the 4th line for 8 minutes. - Pelle31Forever
Right. That's a tough call. Brink has played well this preseason. Foerester is a goal scoring threat, just hasn't shown it this preseason. |

You know, Germany is one of eight countries in the world where you can become it's leader, President, Prime Minister, or Chancellor, etc. being a "naturalized" citizen. Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel and Somalia being the eight.
Edit: apparently you can in that socialist/communist country of Canada as well. |

While Tortorella's system is not the biggest issue. Talent is. His systems and style of play are certainly a worry. It is obsolete and archaic. The Flyers are going to be a bottom 10 in the league in my opinion. While Tortorella can have a short term effect, due to getting the team more organized. They don't play the right way and it's not preparing the Flyers young players for playing a modern day NHL style of play.
Both Provorov and the Flyers wanted a change, so it was made. Provorov got a raw deal here in my opinion. That being said, he took on big minutes in tough spots. Someone else has to take on those minutes now and they really don't have anyone capable of it. |
