I gotta agree with him. You seem to know a lot about the cap but from what I’ve seen your player evaluations aren’t your strong suit - anti-lame
Okay, so let's talk about it. Tell me what I'm wrong about?

Seriously, tell us, what is your normal screen name?
Let me know when you're ready to have an adult conversation. Then we can find out what you know. - MJL i just signed up. i also like long walks on the beach, pesto and country music. but maybe just maybe you are not all that objective about torts? is that at all possible? you honestly dont thing he was good for Cates, Tippett and Frost last year? you believe that? this is not the first time torts has played young forwards 24 minutes a night and benched players like hayes. he has done that his entire career. thats just not in the casual medias agenda so everyone just focus on this mythological coaching figure who actually is prob more responsible 4 the shift in this org than anyone else. i dont think he will be here once this team turns it around in a couple of years, but for now hes has been very good for the orange and black. |

you really need to actually watch these games once in a while. preferably in person.
im not saying you need to love torts and i get why some dont, but if you dont think torts has been good for the org by demanding a rebuild and good for the players by playing the youth and holding the vets accountable then you need to hand in your hockey card and subject yourself to some deep counseling in places like sweden and swiss where drs sport long white coats and spend 14.5 hours a day with lab rats and color coded specimen jars. - 26912 PP1
he hasnt demanded anything. actions baby actions.

I can see a top 10 selection, top 5 I don't see it with teams passing on him. I guess we shall see next summer. - Glak18 Demidov is good but not on the same planet has Michcov who is clearly a gen talent

welcome new poster - hello it's me 2050
he came in and said. this team sucks. we need to rebuild. he screamed it from the rafters and told anyone who would listen.
he then benched the vets and played the kids. he rattled cages and did exactly what 90% of the fanbase wanted, but because hes over 60 and likes his players to hit folks and block shots, some dont like him. unless they brought in a 33 year old kid who talked about analytics every 30 secs a subset of this fanbase were not going to be happy. at the end of the day, they have clearly turned towards a youth movement and now have serious prospects at all positions besides d. also the team plays w heart. for those of us that actually invest our $$s into this team thats a good thing. we support a rebuild, but we also should not have to watch a dog like hayes on the ice.

Maybe but at 17 he’s top 3 talent wise. Some scouts have him ahead of Michkov. He’s all about skill, creativity and deception. He has to develop the rest of his game. Demidov should be over before Michkov since his deal with SKA ends in 25, a year after the draft. His recent knee injury which is supposed to keep him out for 2 months could cause him to drop. Minus that, can’t see him lower than #5. - Minnyhock
I like Demidov.

he did all the easy stuff. Got rid of players he don't like. That's it. They have not turned toward a youth movement.
He is a car salesman fraud. all about actions. His actions do not say rebuilding to us non marks. |

so which one will he be less excited about and send down after 15 games or so, brink or forest? Andrae as soon as RR isback - hello it's me 2050
If Brink or Foerster demonstrate by their play that they need more time in the AHL then they should be sent there. It's not uncommon for young players to lose some confidence and get sent down to regain it, then they come back and are never sent down again. We all talk about patience with developing young players, but now it seems that is out the window?? Anything to criticise the Flyers I guess ... |

I mean, he was good enough to get you a guy like Giroux. Then he went on to have a good year so… - anti-lame
He was good enough for Giroux because thats who Fketcher wanted and was unable to negotiate for a prospect like Mackie Sameskevich. Florida was fine with giving up on Tippett, and to his credit, hes played well with the opportunity afforded |

How does that make any sense if you didn’t get the big prize? What id start rebuilding? There is also a few really good prospects at the top of 2024 - ClaudeFather
That's right, this is not the season to tank, last year was. This season is about building a winning culture and taking another step forward, even if that means the Flyers pick outside of the top 10. |

LOL, you just signed up but you claim to know what my stances are on players? What have you been lurking?
In my opinion, Tortorella is an old school coach whom the game has passed by in terms of handling players, NHL tactics and systems. He is essentially a high paid interim coach that is doing what Yeo should've done. The faster they get rid of him, the better.
With that being said, let's look at the players you named. It's my opinion that wing is a better position for Cates in terms of his upside. Cates has a really strong hockey sense in terms of reading plays and positioning. Which is why he plays really well away from the puck. Which is good for the center spot. However, he doesn't have the raw skills to be a high point produce from the center spot. I believe that he has more of an offensive upside as a winger, where he can be a strong forechecker as F1 and crash the net for jam plays and screens and deflections. I don't see that he has the puck skills or the shooting skills to be a top 6 center. That's my position on Cates. Tortorella and the coaching staff did not develop that aspect of Cates game. He already had it.
Tippet was just a young player who needed an opportunity and ice time to play. If you want to credit Tortorella for that, fine.
For Frost, Tortorella actually held Frost back last season. For some reason, he didn't like Frost. Instead of letting Frost build on what he did down the stretch the previous season, he pigeonholed him on a lower line with unskilled linemates. Briere actually had to have a conversation with Tortorella to play the young players more. When Tortorella finally did, Frost responded and led the team in scoring over a 5 month period. Tortorella should get credit there?
As far as Hayes is concerned. Hayes was having a career offensive season. Then due to Tortorella's schizophrenia, he decided he had to mess with Hayes. Moved him down the lineup and alienated the player. Pushed off of his offense. Instead of getting a better asset to move him out. The Flyers had to take it on the chin to move him to St Louis.
Tortorella hasn't been very good for the Flyers in my opinion. He is not preparing the Flyers to play the type of style of hockey that you need to play in today's NHL. He does not coach speed or fast moving possession hockey. He teaches passive play in the defensive zone and at the blueline. Concedes attack time in a passive low zone collapse defense blocking shots with no puck pressure component. Doesn't use the full ice or full team in breakouts to move the puck to create transition play. There is no coaching creativity offensively or on the PP. On the PK, it's more of the same. Passivity and no puck pressure. Their special teams are a mess. The biggest issue with the Flyers is a lack of talent. However, Tortorella does not help. Now we read or Twitter that they're going to start with a vet heavy lineup. That screams Tortorella. I closing, he has to go! The quicker the better.

Zamula was yo-yo'ed up and down from the minors and kept sitting for a lot of games when he could've been playing. He missed significant playing time. You place way too much value on practicing in the NHL over actually playing. He was mishandled. Seeing the game from above. LMAO - MJL
I watched how Zamula anchored the Phantoms last season, and I have watched how Zamula as really progressed this camp and pre-season. Does seem to be developing to me, so it's hard for me to say he was mishandled, but then again, I am not looking for reasons to criticise the Flyers right now. I would rather give this new leadership group a fair chance and see what happens. |

How about they do what most teams do with NHL ready players. Remain patient at the NHL level and let them develop and work through their issues at the NHL level. Don't handicap them, cut their ice time at the first sign of trouble. Get rid of the archaic first you have to learn to play without a puck before we let you use your skill to pass, shoot and make plays.
Anything to kiss the Flyers ass I guess.

That's because you never consider that if it wasn't for that mishandling, the player could be further along. Without that hiccup. The Flyers have to earn it from me. They don't get any benefit of the doubt.

I have three BIG and BOLD predictions for the Flyers this season.
1. The Flyers will finish with 82 points this season and 6th place in the Metro. The Caps will finish with 78 points and the Blue Jackets with 75 points.
2. The Flyers will finish 22nd in the league is goals for this season, which is about 240-245 total goals scored
3. The Flyers will finish with only 7 or fewer OT losses this year |

Zamula and York seem to be fine. In your opinion everyone has been “mishandled” - you claim they’d be farther along but you can’t prove that.
You also seem to still want Hayes on this team for some god forsaken reason. Like him being gone is now an issue?
Youre all over the place. Let the kids develop. That’s not a stance. It’s hollow. Develop how? Putting brink and forester on the 4th line for 8 min? 32 thoughts was just talking about how winning GMs and teams are not just putting out a 4th scoring line as a 4th line (it’s a podcast, check it out)
You’ve also somehow managed to turn Tippett’s success into somehow a slight on Frost. It’s a weird obsession.
I’ve also read the things you’ve said about Phil Myers and that’s an embarrassing stance for someone who tells others they don’t know how to evaluate a player lol
Give your head a shake. A lot of what you say and claim is purely anecdotal as you see it. But hardly ever based on fact. |

I already said I don't think your criticisms are valid in terms of Frost, Zamula or Cates being deployed as a center instead of a wing. In the end, if all these players succeed and have great careers for the Flyers, does it really matter? |

Of course it matters. Look at the Flyers record and success level in developing players. Just look at the players that were able to overcome obstacles put in their way of bad development and call it good? Not all players will be able to push through. To be clear, my position Cates is not a criticism of playing him at center. The reasons for playing him at center are very valid. My position is that I think he has a higher upside as a wing.

how they supposed to do that if they are sitting or rotating in and out?
Do you even understand how bad of a strategy it is to rotate those 2? Horrible way to manage those 2
They have earned all the criticism that comes their way. |

Lol yeah that seems to be your answer to a lot of people - anti-lame
Not to a lot of people, just to people who post nonsense. Let's make it simple and start with your first sentence to show what nonsense it is.
"Zamula and York seem to be fine. In your opinion everyone has been “mishandled” - you claim they’d be farther along but you can’t prove that."
First of all, we'll see how "fine" Zamula is this season. Yet to be determined. York had a good season last year. Where he was mishandled in my opinion was that he never should've been sent down last season at the start. He had played 30 solid NHL games and showed that he was NHL player. A handful of subpar pre-season games doesn't trump that. The real reason he was sent down is because the coach didn't like the way he responded to verbal confrontation. He didn't like his "attitude". That is shameful player development. York then came up and hit the ground running. I guess were supposed to pretend that he wasn't ready for the NHL in that in between time?
Stating that I think everyone was mishandled, is nonsense. For example, of the players you named. I have never stated that Tippett or Cates have been mishandled in their development.
In terms of what can be proven. This is a discussion forum of opinions on hockey and other things. There is no standard applied where every opinion has to be proven. When everyone is held to that high standard. Then you can apply that to me. It is my opinion that players like Frost, Zamula and York would be further along in their development curve to varying degrees without the mistakes made by the Flyers. Especially Frost.
Ready to move on to the next? |
