well it's kind of the subject of the day Pat. the coach goes with his backup goalie who lets in 2 softties. an overpaid backup, so much so that noone will trade for him.
you want me to talk about RHP or Guhle?

- fidopro

that Allen is the backup is your opinion though, not necessarily reality.

Did they want Allen in Toronto (hard potential road win) and Monty in Montreal on Saturday (vs Chicago) - a more winnable game?

I think they wanted Monty for the home opener.

And none fo the goalies were gonna play 2 in a row.

Again, they were always gonna play Monty in the home opener.

and why not go with your #1 guy for game #1 like any other teams, and go back with him again for game 2? is that impossible?
then you'll tell me Allen needs to play at one point.

no he doesn't. he's the back up. wait, be ready when we call. that's it.

Maybe they can play Monty for the next 10 starts and then decide if Allen or Primeau can get a game after that, too.

I understand if some people feel that Montembeault should've been the starter and should be considered as #1, but with the camp he had the answer definitely isn't all that clear right now, there's nothing wrong with splitting the work and see where it goes.

Until one goalie proves themselves more reliable than the others, games will mostly be split (with Primeau getting a few of them, in the interim).

Monty had a decent, not great season last year, he did well in the World Championships.

But he has not shown he is worthy of holding the #1 spot, getting 50-55+ starts.

Maybe he does by the end of the month.

Who knows?

Fun way to lose, yes.

Not even mad, TBH.

yup, so in other words if Monty consistently gives better goaltending than Allen then the job will be his, and vice-versa.

Like I said.

Game 1 was fun. Now they just need to do the same for the next 81 games.

the intensity can't be the same every game though, that's basically impossible. we'll see how they look against Chicago, and Minnesota next week...

edit: normally the home opener should be a good effort.

I just want to see effort, try to win, use speed, make plays, etc...

That will make me not care about their record at the end of the year.
