I’m going to tell you all a story. Laugh at me all you want. But I’m a proud Newfoundlander and I know Alex newhooks family personally. I only met him briefly 5-6 times but I’m a friend of his two cousins. That kid is ready and going to shock the hockey world. Trust me. Just wait and see

Did they want Allen in Toronto (hard potential road win) and Monty in Montreal on Saturday (vs Chicago) - a more winnable game?

I think they wanted Monty for the home opener.

And none fo the goalies were gonna play 2 in a row.

I said the same thing. You put your number one against the team you have more chances to beat. Fans twist that one around.

Mtl got a point tonight. Its all good. Its should not be about W and L all that much anyway.

aie aie aie, on every radio tv shows all experts are saying the same thing. after last season Monty deserved to be the #1G. j'invente rien là.

That’s all well and good, Monty was a little better than Allen last year but neither one is the long term answer as far as I’m concerned. Monty is not a #1 goalie in this league. But the Habs arent there yet anyway. Couple years from competing for a playoff spot IMO.

Loved the trade when it was made. Newhook is a very good player and will help us alot moving forward.

They need to get tighter defensively. Yes they can score but improvement is needed in their zone, they allow way too many scoring chances.

If Montembeault plays every season like he did the last one, he'd be fine goaltender on a good team.

He's no worse than a Kuemper, a Gorgiev or a Samsonov. He just needs help.

young team, that's normal. Hence why most people think they will finish last in the divison. All part of the process.

I didn't see too many mistakes from the defense yesterday.

Leafs scored on the powerplay 2 times, Allen gave up two stinkers and the last goal was a double failed clearing attempt by Monahan.

Overall, I thought the defense did fine.

Actually thought Pearson did pretty well overall. He had some good shifts on the PK.

Gallagher looks so goddamn slow out there.... he's not gonna score, he's not gonna defend...... I don't know what his role can be right now except "leadership".

Use Pearson on the PK thats fine.
But Monahan needs a speedy grinder like Gallagher was in his early 20s
I would even say that Pinard-Monahan-Ylonen would be my preferred line with current players

I would love to see Pinard-Monahan-Roy give them a dozen games. Would be a seriously dangerous 3rd line.

I love Arbers style, but i hate losing a D for extended periods during a game for his fighting and rough style.
Would be great if they could have a Dandenault type player on 4th line that can chip in on D if needed during a game

RHP should be on the third line for sure. It's bound to happen.

Pearson-Monahan-Gallagher is just too slow of a line to create anything. I'd move Gallagher to the 4th line and move up either Ylonen or RHP (most likely the latter).

Injuries will happen so I'm sure a Heineman or a Roy will be up here eventually.

The best stat for yesterday?

Habs outscored the Leafs 4-1 at 5 on 5.

Very encouraging.

I have no hesitation saying it was his best game.

He was involved in the play, controlled the puck, used his size and his stick to create turnovers....

He only had 1 point but deserved a 2nd one on the 2nd Newhook goal because his play led to that goal.

If he plays like this all season, the points will come for sure.

Agreed. I think Monahan should be moved up to the first line though. Drop Anderson down to the 3rd line, Gallagher to the 4th and RVP up to the third.

Gallagher did not look good from what I was able to catch of the game last night.

If everyone stays healthy and Dvorak comes back, it's probably happening.

But until then, I don't see them breaking up that Slaf-Dach-Newhook line as long as they plan like that. So we need Monahan at centre.

word is Dvo is pretty ready to come back, with the easy schedule for the first 2 weeks, they are just giving him extra time to get stronger.

Oh the 4th line did great.

It's the third one that's too slow.

They need speed instead of Gally.

With Dvo coming back in a couple weeks, who sits? Not Ylonen...
