I sincerely don't know why they aren't all instructed, when receiving ANY question from Steve Simmons, to simply say, "Thank you for your question. Next question?"

I have to admit, I hate the Bieber jersey - but the kids today love it. - Atomic Wedgie
They're should be a rule, only blue and white on the jerseys except for the St. Pats ones. If I was Shanny I'd be a totally authoritarian Trudeau about that. |

It's such a bad question. There's no answer that's going to be interesting. I'm glad I got the hat trick but I'd like to play better. Wtf. - Zezel
Simmons wants so badly to be a Hall of Famer, that he asked a Hall of Fame bad question, just to know what it feels like. |

I think the Sun in general keeps the level of their writing below the level of their readers so their readers don't feel dumb. And that level is not high. |

I think it’s a (frank)ing awful 3rd jersey.
Should be something offered as a novelty jersey.
- .HOHO.
Remember when they sold those jerseys where the left side was home and the right side was away?
Who the frank would ever buy one of those? |

Reeeeally not liking how hard Shapiro is defending Atkins in this press conference. - GreatGigInTheSky
Shapiro needed to speak before atkins did.
He should have done this last week.
Atkins should have talked today |

Enough with the Chinese fire drills in the defensive zone. It looked like a reply of last year, and the year before, and the year....
Even with giving credit to Montreal (or any opponent) for an aggressive forecheck, there were too many times where the Leafs D struggled to corral the puck and get it quickly out of the zone. Lots of fumbling around, pucks in skates, getting pinned to the boards, making hasty or half-assed passes, it looks like a beer league defense at times.
Sure, Klinger can be elegant with the puck on occasion, but more often than not there wasn't a clean breakout, there wasn't a tape to tape pass, there wasn't a high chip-out, just a lot of (frank)ery that gives teams too many second, third, and fourth chances to keep the puck in and get a scoring chance out of something that should have been a dump and change.
When the Lightning had McD on the backend, they were superb at exits and first passes. I got spoiled on it. Teams would chip or dump in, and it would be right back out before they got a chance to harass the retriever. And if the D did get into trouble, there was always a quick forward to jump in and help.
The Leafs D just looks consistently inconsistent. Adding Klinger won't help that. At this point, I don't know what will. This is what happens when you have a roster full of #3 and #5 defensemen trying to be #1's and #4's. |

It was the 1st game
Klinger was great
Tree has all year to add to the D, won't have to touch the F group much at all so he can focus on D |

I mean, they did have the 5th best goals against overall last year. So if Samsonov and the D are bad, the forwards are skilled floaters...is it just that the rest of the league's offence is really, really bad? For a terrible defensive team they're really good at not getting scored on.

Just an eye test. But yeah, first game with new guys learning the system.
And, most importantly : they won. No Leafy ending to the story. Matthews acted like a game-breaker should. Him and his stache took the team onto their backs.

Also, Keefe is bad too. So, we have a bad D and goalie and soft forwards with no depth and bad coaching and the other teams can't crack their net. It's clear now that the NHL is terrible at scoring.

If you think giving up 5 goals a game is a path to success, then I don't know what to tell you.
Matthews snatched 2 points for this team last night.

If you think the result of the 1st game of the season will put any team on any path than I don't know what to tell you
EDM gave up 8, throw away the season

Lighten up Francis. I was one of the only ones in here last night being optimistic when the Leafs were bleeding goals to a glorified AHL squad. You are taking my critique of the defense and running with it beyond my intended point.
Leafs need better D and lack a true #1. That has been the case for years, and it still is. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is well,..... nevermind.
I wanna see the Leafs win. They won last night, despite the warts showing in their game. It's a positive sign, but the flip side of that is a cautionary tale. |

Had a 10pm mens league hockey last night so didn't get to watch anything past teh 1st period live. Set the PVR before heading out to hockey and then once home from the game watch the rest of the game with a few cold beers while washing smelly hockey clothing for the W! :-)
Getting too jacked up (UP not off you perverts) watching said game late whilst drinking cold beer for the L as I'm exhausted today and my head was def. very groggy when I woke up.:-(
Bit of an ugly but character building / team building win. I like it as the Leafs usually lose the home opener and always seem to throw up a turd vs the Habs.
Got a new sign, hung it out back on the wall by my hot tub - it looks sweet AF!
Go Leafs Go!
