Yes. I’m hoping for a 3 year type turnaround rather than 5 to 7. Some smart trades to augment a solid young core kind of thing. Hope DB is up to the task here.

It’s all going to depend what the team looks like when Michkov comes over. In a perfect world it would be great to add him on the ELC to a team that’s starting to push for playoffs. But the defense and lack of talent overall probably signals 4-5 years out depending if players like cutter Foerester establish themselves. Still don’t see a scenario where this Dcore is manageable by then

Provorov apparently made comments at morning skate which were veiled comments about how the last 3 years went in Philly. Jeff marek interpreted his comments as a shot at torts even though he hadn’t been there for the 3 years. He lamented that a lot of the players had a hard time adapting to rimming the puck around rather than being allowed to be creative. Marek says he was on the right track when he played with niskanen and that when he lost that mentor, he lost his way. Compares niskanen to mccrimmon in the way he helped young stars along being paired with them.

Have to take comments with a grain of salt. He does have a point about rimming the puck around though. Rim strong side breakouts. A Tortorella staple.

First thing is what the benchmark is. Is it just being a playoff team, or is it higher?

I’d like to find all the comments in a link to post so everyone can hear it. Definitely sounds happy to be out of Philly I’d say

Thanks. I suspect he’s correct in his assessment that most of the team don’t really like the way things went the last 3 years. Since the bubble playoff run, it’s been an epic disaster on all fronts

Missed that. Pushing for the playoffs is a pretty low benchmark. I hope they progress to that point quicker than 5 years

I'll start with just wanting the young guys to play.

My hope was around Michkov arrival, but there’s a lot of work to be done

This deadline is probably a big deciding factor here. If they keep both TK and Laughton, I guess you could caveat before next draft too, that would be a joke

I strongly believe they will keep both. Unless TK tells them he will test free agency they will re-sign or try to next summer.

It's interesting that you label it pure laziness and one of the reasons you give why is not seeing the potential in a player like Frost! That's you!
- MJL

I have always saw the potential in Frost, however until the second half of last year that potential was not being realized. We'll see how that goes this year.

I see people who preach tolerance aren’t very tolerant themselves. Seems about right in this day and age. Yes, having principles is a very difficult thing for some.

Provorov exercised his right to free speech. His salary was intact, his jersey was still on sale, no one dropped any endorsement, he continued to play.

But once he exercised his right to speech, the way he exercised it becomes a public event. To which those of us who disagree with his pov have ourselves every right to criticize it. Just like those who disagree with kneeling during the anthem have every right to critique the kneelers.

That is not intolerance. That is precisely the same right you want Provorov to have.

What players have they added that have increased team speed? What players have they added to improve puck possession?
- MJL

I assume you didn't watch the last 3 preseason games ? They skated circles around both NYI and Boston. For starters, Bobby Brink. He was skating ahead of defensive pressure and creating lanes. Forester was also doing the same, although in a different way (more north/south) vs. Brink who was able to do this on the cycle. Not all are prospects. Atkinson is a strong skater in his own right. He is a pk player because of his defensive play + speed. Emil Andrae is a strong skater.
I will have to agree with you in part, because out of these 4 examples, 2 are not going to start tonight (Andrae and Forester). However, the overall pace of play they have been playing at is a much higher tempo.
In conclusion, will this move the needle ? Probably not if they can't turn this advantage into high percentage shots. And that is what I noticed. They cycled well, and were able to get opportunities, but were not high quality. That will come in time. Chemistry, due to 6 new players on this roster is going to slow down the positives. We will need to be patient.

Do you have a Crystal ball ? How do you know they will come up empty for defensemen the next 4 years ? Have you forgotten how bad NJ was ? Did anyone think they were going to turn it around ? As soon as they were able to become a bubble playoff team, were able to sign an expensive free agent D man (Dougie Hamilton) and it began there with the first marquee signing. Then was easier to sell it to other free agents, plus they had strong prospects emerging. Briere will do the same.

I laid out very reasonable issues that are at hand. And I didn’t say it couldn’t be done. You come back with do I have a crystal ball and it will be miraculously be solved in free agency. Good luck with that

Provorov must be so proud that Pride tape is banned.
- Feanor

Provorov doesn't care. He just doesn't want to be forced to bend the knee to the rainbow jihad.

That said, FINALLY! We have hockey back. Seems like a lifetime since the last game.

I'll be recording the Flyers tonight and watching the Phillies take down the Braves.

There are differences. Provy didn't want to participate and said nothing negative about anyone and the he respects everyone's opinion. . Provy gets called out for following his religion. I have seen no one who called him out saying I don't like what he did but it is his right. They all call out his religion.

My issue is that it seems the christian is an easy target. There are other religions that say being is wrong.

Hart is most definitely a solid tender and on a team that provides him a modicum of defence to work with, he’d excel. It’s a team game and too often goaltenders get blamed for all the team’s problems.
- Hextall271

also add, scoring is up across the league, just where the league is going.

I didn't say it would be ALL solved in free agency. There are a few ways to acquire this kind of #1 d man. A trade with assets that we accumulate the next year or two from taking on salary dumps plus prospects in excess of what is needed, for the same reason, combined with a roster player - OR - free agency - OR someone develops into it. It's just too early to say there's no path to it.
I just have an overall feeling that our bad luck with GMs is over. Does Briere have things to learn ? Yes. But I'll take those mistakes because he has ultimately what it takes to see it through. He'll win more than he loses, and he won't give up or become passive.
