If a player is turning a certain age during the season thats what I call them for the year.

Letang will be 37 this season.

And its apples and oranges. 36, 37, 38 is all old as (frank) for a hockey player.

Well people(me too) have been predicting their downfall for years.

But also Sens and Sabres fans have been saying they are playoff teams for a few years as well…

The trade happened, nothing can change that, I'm still optimistic that Varsho will be an excellent long term CF for the Jays. My issue with the hitting is that it was floundering all year, the Jays did nothing to address the Batting coach with Mattingly on the bench. The GM did half a job by shoring up the already strong bullpen and ignoring the hitting entirely. Adding a big clutch bat - such as Bellinger (who at one point was avaliable - with his 4.0WAR vs. puny WAR for virtually every Jay hitter except Bo) It was very disappointing. The most glaring need was simply ignored to save $

Absolutely. And Japan has proven time and again that it's truly a hotbed for talented Baseball players.

And as a side, there is literally no downside for the team. Yeah, you've giving him an absolutely insane amount of money, but they'd make so, so much more from it. Ticket sales would go up even higher than they already were. Sponsorships with basically every Japanese product.

I'm with you on this, the only issue I see is that he will likely want to get a reasonable paycheck. Leafs are tight against the cap. Unless they throw a player with some cap overboard (Brodie comes to mind) there really isn't much hope of signing him. Also if they did unload Brodie, they would need another d-man
