And as a side, there is literally no downside for the team. Yeah, you've giving him an absolutely insane amount of money, but they'd make so, so much more from it. Ticket sales would go up even higher than they already were. Sponsorships with basically every Japanese product.

lol (frank). Honestly though I'd check in on him again later. With something like that you can be so adrenalized you don't realize an injury until later. Buddy of mine biked 3 kilometres after a crash with shattered ribs, punctured lung, and broken shoulder and collarbones.

I'm with you on this, the only issue I see is that he will likely want to get a reasonable paycheck. Leafs are tight against the cap. Unless they throw a player with some cap overboard (Brodie comes to mind) there really isn't much hope of signing him. Also if they did unload Brodie, they would need another d-man

The surgery he has had hasn't exactly been positive for NHLers. Backstrom came back pretty sucky last season after it.

My guess is he takes a low cap hit for the best opportunity on a team guaranteed for playoffs so he can get another multi year deal after this one.
