Chicago or Anaheim could slide him into their top 6 and possibly get something for him at the deadline.

Or some GM might circle back looking for that 1.5 mil cap space that they announced they wanted.

Canucks are pretty thin on the right side. Until Bear is ready to go I'd say that deal would have to wait. I'd rather keep Myers because at least he is and would be worth something at the tdl.

I don't know if PA covets that fourth round pick enough to keep a year of Myers and missing the playoffs.

Enough Myers talk, can we go back to talking about how great this team was for that season opener against Edmonton?

It's probably better if we talk about the bubble playoffs where we almost won the cup.

That was one heck of a team. Should see many retired numbers and ring of honour candidates from that amazing group.

Lekkerimaki on the PP to make it 3-1.

He needs to round out a lot of his game before he makes the NHL. Makes Boeser look involved in hockey games

Marek and Elliotte both wondering about the Capitals for Garland. Especially after what happened last couple days.

This should get some juices going. McIndoe's new tongue-in-cheek article series at the Athletic:

Welcome to The Contrarian, a new column idea that Iā€™m very excited about.

Or am I?

You see what I did there. And thereā€™s more where that came from because the concept here is simple: You send me some NHL-related statements that you believe to be true. It can be something that seems obvious, maybe even inarguable. Then I argue it anyway and try to convince you that youā€™re wrong.

[...]

The Mark Messier era in Vancouver was an unmitigated disaster. ā€“ Olivier C.

On the contrary, Olivier, you fool.

The Mark Messier signing is universally reviled in Vancouver, Iā€™ll grant you that. Heā€™s probably the most hated player in franchise history, to the extent that the team itself likes to pretend he was never there. Thatā€™s the kind of retconning that fans get to do when theyā€™re not letting inconvenient facts get in the way.

Here are those facts. First, by that fateful 1997 offseason, the Canucks were clearly a team in decline. The 1994 run to the Stanley Cup Final was inspiring, but theyā€™d gone out in the second round the next season, gone out in the first the year after that, and then missed the playoffs entirely. The 1996-97 team finished under .500, had Martin Gelinas as their second-leading scorer, a 23-year-old Markus Naslund spinning his wheels as a 40-point depth piece, and a so-called franchise player in Pavel Bure who was so broken down and ineffective that he already looked like he was finished as a star at 25.

Then Messier arrived. Granted, this wasnā€™t the 1990 version of Messier, but nobody should have expected that. Instead, the Canucks got a 37-year-old who still put up 162 points over three years, just three back of Naslund for the team lead over that time. Yes, the same Naslund who was no good until Messier arrived, at which point he pretty much immediately began the transformation into the elite winger heā€™d become. Bure immediately rediscovered his game too, scoring 51 goals in his first year with Messier, more than heā€™d had in the previous three seasons combined. Gosh, itā€™s almost as if Messier made everyone around him better.

And I know, I hear you Canucks fans: But what about Trevor Linden? Our precious hero and team captain, who was cruelly shoved aside so that Messier could have the ā€œCā€ and the spotlight. And yes, that happened. But when it was finally time to send Linden out to a nice farm upstate, do you remember what you got for him? Just a couple of kids named Todd Bertuzzi and Bryan McCabe. Bertuzzi blossomed in Vancouver, going on to become one of the best power forwards in the league before eventually being traded for Roberto Luongo. And McCabe was a key piece in the draft floor wheeling and dealing that Brian Burke pulled off in 1999 to land the Sedins. Not bad for an aging Linden, who you got back for next to nothing just a few years later. And it never would have happened if Messier hadnā€™t arrived to push Linden out.

Messier was the key turning point in the Canucks going from late-90s laughingstock to 2000s contender. He fixed Bure, flipped the switch for Naslund, and forced the Linden trade that led directly to the Luongo/Sedins era. And he did it all while very nearly leading the team in scoring, boosting the franchiseā€™s sagging public profile, and never losing so much as a single playoff game. Hate him if you want, but he was one of the smartest additions in franchise history.

Canucks are hiring Ilya Vorobyov

Former HC of Metallburg Magnitogorsk, coached Podkolzin and Kuzmenko in the KHL.

Not expected to take a coaching role but a front office role.

The report states that Vorobyov will work with the Canucks for their next three home games, which will be played against the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, and Nashville Predators. The 48-year-old is not expected to have a coaching role, but rather one in the front office and behind the scenes, where heā€™ll be analyzing video and assisting with team tactics and strategies.

Lastly, thereā€™s been no determination on whether or not Vorobyov will serve in this role permanently rather than this temporary basis.

As others have said, to fully appreciate chaos giraffe one must view in it's natural habit to appreciate all the intricate chaotic elements. Those unnecessary near misses where he is bailed out by Demko or others that don't show up on the stat sheet.

Even though I'm pretty sure you're trolling for fun, don't worry I'm sure the stats will speak a different narrative soon.

You just don't like being proven wrong. So be it. I still stand by my opinion he played fine the 1st 2 games. Had a rough one in Philly like the rest of the team. The stats back me up. All you have is Chaos Giraffe blah, blah, blah, Chaos Giraffe. He sux.

Fantastic counter. Find something of substance beyond a derogatory nickname you heard and keep repeating and I'll engage you in discussion. Personally, I hope he plays amazing the rest of the way because it's good for the team and also seems to piss guys like you off.

1 goal against including his PK minutes. Not bad so far.

Need to see more games to get a feel if he's playing better this season but you are not wrong, he hasn't been as bad as the narrative monkeys say so far.

Hronek leading the team in giveaways is concerning but I'll say the same about him. Need to see more games.

When Hronek was traded to Van, a Wings fan came in to warn us about his gift wrapped giveaways. So far, he is right.

I have felt the hate towards Myers has been overblown at times as well.
But last game, he was a hot mess.
Multiple turnovers and giveaways and also 2 penalties.

In saying that, with our depth, i don't think it's the right time to move him unfortunately.

What ever happened to splitting up Hronek and Hughes?
That's all that was talked about and then hasn't happened at all in the 3 games played.

Proven wrong how? I watch the game. I don't just look at the most basic stat line. He's a hot mess. The puck is a grenade on his stick. I'd feel more confident (or at least excited) in our 7, 8, or 9 D down the depth chart retrieving pucks or starting breakouts. Something other than a dump off the boards and/or icing. He pokes a few pucks away at the blue line with his long reach. Other than that, I don't see him contribute in much any way. Use his size, hit, anything. It will catch up with him on the stat line you use as well. I can hope all I want for him to be better, but he's been this way for years. It's like wishing OEL was better the last couple years ... just ain't gonna happen.

Also, derogatory? Like to him or giraffes??

I think Soucy was the intended partner for Hughes, but him getting hurt before the start of the season delayed it. I would think we see them together for full a game soon.

I think the early injuries messed up the pairings. But from what I saw in camp, the D corp doesn't have an overabundance of speed beyond Hughes and Hronek. Maybe that's why they're together.

I don't know if he was nursing something but Soucy's footwork and speed will be an issue if he isn't paired with someone faster. Cole was fine but had a habit of skating into trouble and holding the puck too long. Myers has been written enough about already.

Still, it's early with a new coaching staff. You could tell during the scrimmage in Vic and exhibition game in Seattle that these guys were still feeling things out system wise. I think some of this is getting exposed now because they aren't able to match as well on the road without last change.
