I'm more at the point that the effort isn't there enough nights. Team on paper should be a top 15 team in the league easily. Too many periods off, too many nights off to be every considered a contender. - manvanfan

How long will it take for people to realize Tocchet is going to play a system similar to what Green was doing in the season he got fired?
Difference is Tocchet will have superstar Pettersson.
One issue that isn't being talked about much is how Canucks aren't creating enough quality scoring chances.
Hoping to win with shots from the outside isn't a recipe for success long-term. It will work in some games like the 2nd Oilers game can't win consistently like that. |

D-Petey with 2 assists today. Now has 6 points in 6 games in the Allsvenskan. Highest in over a decade is Emil Andrae with 33 in 41 games at .8 PPG. For a u20 D in the league.
Right now he is pacing Marcus Pettersson of Pittsburgh and Martin Fehérváry of the Washington Capitals.

It's not an unfair assumption. Canucks have a top 20 forward, a top 15 Dman, and a top 10 goalie all playing on the same team. They have a more solid core than 2/3 of the league easily. |

I mean, if you consider 3 players a core. We just happen to cover the basic positions with a talented forward, dman and goalie. I don't know if that meets the criteria of a core.
I'd rather the vegas model dozen or so solid-elite players pulling in the same direction. |

Well except the goalie. only 32 games, half of which he was injured during.
It's pathetic how much they have to rely on Demko but we're now up to 2 management groups who haven't seemed to put together a competent D corps that plays with any kind of structure. |

I mean if you're extending the core to include solid-elite guys you can definitely toss a several more in for the Canucks.
I think the point remains that depth is obviously a problem, yet it still feels like they're under performing for the amount of talent on the roster. |

They didn't turn into a contender in the off season. They are not a 'top 15 team on paper' or on the ice. |

Those are 2 different statements, one of which I definitely didn't say and the other I said was "not an unfair assumption".
It's easy to argue that the Canucks are a top 15 team on paper(which yes, means nothing) because they have more raw talent at the top end of their roster than about half of the league. |

If you look at the league standings as they sit right now, they're in 13th. We aren't the only team struggling defensively out of the gate. There's quite a few. |

Maybe used the wrong word in 'solid', but I can't add too much to an upper tier from Van. Pulling in the same direction a key too. Petey being noticeably absent despite points. I don't know if you can be considered part of core yet/still if you're eligible to re-sign and playing last year of your contract. Lots said about one foot out the door.
Kuzmenko, Miller ... maybe Hronek. Boeser been very lucky and still needs to prove it. |

I’m tired of the Ryan Reaves debate too, but he has played 6.5, 6.5, 9.5 and 8.0 minutes through four games, and he has still been scored against in all four. Probably the worst stretch of play by a fourth-line player in Sheldon Keefe’s tenure, and there have been some bad ones.
..............................................................................................
I have seen some of his quotes this year. The guy is a dumpster file. He is more of a distraction to his own team rather than a distraction to other teams |

I think Petey looks fine, he's made some strong defensive plays and should have another big year.
I've been encouraged by Boeser so far but I'm cautiously optimistic for sure. One thing I have noticed is Tocchet seems to have convinced him to get to the right areas on the ice to score/produce chances, which is something he hasn't done in a long time. |

Ya it’s a tough one man. Not a good stat to be on the ice for a goal against - but I mean playing without a goalie in net and 5 on just Reaves it’s pretty good. Reaves vs 5 + tender only 4 goals against not too shabby |
