Saw that. Also an extrmely dumb idea.
MLB and NBA have drafts, you know what they have either no cap or Flexible caps.
Here's how you make the NHL more interesting (IMO). Keep the draft. UFA starts at 24 or 5 years of service. Make the cap very high or get rid of it. Adopt mid level exceptions or reward teams for keeping home grown talent. Enough of this hard cap bullpoop. - tomburton99
If the cap went away that would be magical. I can't wait for the Rangers to return to the early Sather era. |

You ain't wrong. But you see my point though right? like I know the NHL will never make a huge profit on the draft, but the fact they want to eliminate in person drafts is bad for everybody. And I do think it's because the league loses money on it, which should be impossible. |

You willingly opt to listen to Sam and Joe instead? - JRR1285
I would rather watch hockey with bad announcers than any between period/halftime/pregame/postgame crap.
I'd rather watch the Ranger game with only the audio from Sam and Joe having loud rough, passionate sex than listen to Shannon Hogan talk about the Islanders raising a guide dog |

there should be a cap, but it should be higher, it's ridiculously low, and like Tom said some kind of exception to sign your own players should be exist |

But that's my point though. The Leafs, Hawks and Rangers never won in the non cap era. They all made big splashs and failed. Detroit, New Jersey and Colorado dominated. You know why, they drafted well and made good trades. they also signed some guys but the point remains that just mindlessly spending doesn't correlate to championships.
MLB and NBA are perfect examples of that right now. |

That's not even an original idea. that's just basically the NBA. The warriors, Celtics, Heat, and Nuggets are all really good because they draft and develop well. Then they get rewarded by being able to spend more money. |

I do wish they'd stagger more start times. One perk of the Isles being mostly 7:30 starts now is that when Isles and Rangers are both playing I can flip over to the Rangers during Isles intermissions so my ears don't have to bleed listening to the between period filler.
Viewership seems to be doing pretty well in general though
- eichiefs9
That's good for viewership. Now bankroll that momentum, literally and figuratively. |

trades happen on the draft floor, even just seeing two GM's talking on the floor is exciting even if a trade doesnt happen - jimbro83

Imagine a guy like Bedard, Matthews, or Mcdavid not walking across the stage. No draft is bad for everybody: Fans, City, League, Players. |

I went to the 1996 Islanders draft party at Coliseum when Islanders drafted JP Dumont
Rangers went 22nd and picked Jeff Brown and all Islander fans were laughing that he was bald already

Completely agree. Should be a spectacle worth tuning into, especially with relevant bands like Nickleback playing. |

Maybe I misheard Friedman, but it sounded like there would still be a "draft" that players and fans would attend but the teams would effectively just stay at home to make their picks.
I don't watch the draft of any sports, so I have no idea, but I thought Friedman said that's what the NBA and/or NFL did. |

Hey we still have Tavares' first game back at the Coliseum. That was one of the funniest things ever. |
