We'll see how many points Brink has this year. I have a feeling he will surpass Frost's totals last year. - jd250

Sure. Now bury him on the fourth line for a month and see how he produces. |

Rebuild or no rebuild, Torts is going to coach to win as many games as possible, that is just how he is built. That IMO is the way it should be. - jd250
I don't think it's as black and white as that. Torts and Briere need to be on the same page as to what the ultimate goal is.
I've said this a million times. I'll say it again. A GM is thinking about 2024 2025, etc. A coach is trying to win Monday, Tuesday, etc |

what is a coach/co-gm1 trying to do? |

anyone who is in favor of a "rebuild" and thinks Frost shouldn't be in the lineup really isn't interested in a "rebuild".
Is it not about the bigger picture and 3/4 years down the line? |

play him and others the entire year. If you then do not like what you see or what the offer cut bait. It is really that simple.
Now I am not saying never scratch them mind you. They need to play the very high majority of the games to get a better evaluation on what they can contribute going forward. |

If the “kids” aren’t truly ready for the NHL they should watch the games from the press box. If they are good enough to make the team they better be perfect when they get a chance to play or they should watch from the press box. If they are not perfect and need to learn by playing they need to watch from the press box. If watching from the press box doesnt teach them the “right way” to play, they should continue to watch from the press box until some random moment when they no longer need to watch from the press box. This rule does not apply to the veterans. And learning to play does not occur in LV for the kids. A new era of Orange! Let’s strive for 41-41-0, the 17th pick overall, and maybe Frost, Zemula, Forester, Brink, and Andrae will have to become veterans with 41 games apiece this year in the NHL.
I love that they’re winning games, but for what it’s worth, how is this team any closer than it was the last 2 years if the kids don’t develop, assuming the kids are good enough to be a part of a future championship caliber team. |

Frost scored a lot of his points against non-playoff teams. But you can look at Tippett's career high 27 goals last year and this what you'll find: roughtly two-thirds came against non-playoff teams. That includes Columbus (four goals), Buffalo (hat trick game), Montreal (four goals), the Ducks (one GP, one goal, two points) and the Coyotes (one goal, three points in two games).
Lastly, I don't want to hear "he only came on when the season was basically over". It was 2/3 of a season, not a month. Beyond that, was he playing in different games than the rest of the Flyers? No, he was not.
I don't care that Tippett -- or Frost -- did a lot more damage against high-GAA teams than ones that are stingy in allowing goals. That's the case for many good NHL players.
That Frost had two four-point games in the same season against Arizona, something no other NHL player did last year, is not somehow a negative. At absolute worst, it shows the ability is there. Torts should focus on unlocking the next step, as a good coach is supposed to do. - bmeltzer
Bill, I am very impressed but you with your honest takes concerning torts.
Being who you are amongst the flyers faithful and the amount of repsect that you have from us it says a lot that you see what many of us see.
Torts is biased against frost and like many of us, you seem to think it's getting old.
I just wanted to say thank you for keeping it real. Realness goes a long way with us as fans.
With that said.... hopefully torts won't be here when MM and Gauthier hit the scene. |

Just stop. He is a kid. He has played 1 full season in the NHL and 160 games total. Sam Ersson is also 24, should he be held to the same ridiculous criteria? How about 26 year old Felix Sandstrom? God, using your criteria he should be out of the league already. - MBFlyerfan

Ive always felt Frost's skillset would be better served at wing. A little less defensive responsibility. - MBFlyerfan
This is a muxh bigger discussion. Torts doesn't use players to their skill set. He expects everybody to block shots and play a certain style but by doing so he greatly reduces a players natural skill set.
Let the kids develop and evolve over time. Benching them doesn't help them to further develop their game. This is where I dislike torts |

Frost will play when he has earned it. Kid just signed a new contract and has been lacklustre. Unlike most of you I think Tortorella is a good coach and I love that management came and gave him the power to be involved in personnel changes. You will see this team play hard this year. I think those of you wishing for a top 5 pick are out of luck. Play the best players available and try to win. If they stay healthy they will be a bubble team - Keyser soze
When he led the team in scoring last season over a 5 month period and led the team overall in ES scoring last year, he didn't earn it. Two games this season erases all of that? Give me a break. Tortorella having heavy involvement in personnel changes is a death sentence for a franchise. The sooner he is fired, the better.

I don't agree, Torts is wired to win, rebuild or no rebuild. Thus he will put the best lineup he can out there in order to win. If he thought Frost could help the team win over other players, Frost would be in the lineup whether Torts likes him or not. There are no head games here. Torts says Frost needs to play better. Frost also has been quoted as saying he needs to play better. It's really that simple. Frost has been outplayed but other players on the team, though I think Foerster has not played well either. - jd250
There is a distinction that continues to elude you. Yes, Frost needs to play better than he did the first two games. Nobody denies that. The issue is that he shouldn't be out of the lineup because of it. If Frost is not in the lineup, then they are not putting the best lineup out there. Scratching Frost is the action of an incompetent coach and organization. It's really that simple. |

Owen Tippett scored 27 goals last season. 18 of his 27 goals was scored against non-playoff teams. |

Considering 1/2 of the teams make the playoffs, I’m not sure if it’s a big red flag that 2/3 were scored against the lower half. Naturally you’re going to pop in a few more against lesser talent.
Is 2/3 a huge outlier?
Kinda seems reasonable. That’s like a 4 goal swing. |

It's not a big red flag. I'm sure we'd see the same thing with almost every player. The worse teams give up more goals. It's simply to illustrate the hypocrisy. How Frost detractors who are often Tippett supporters like to bring up what teams Frost scored against but ignore it with the comparisons made between the two. I personally am high on both players. |

I’m not even sure why this exists. Why is this a Ginger/Mary Ann thing? Just like with those two, I’d like to have both. |
