Too many games, 2 at the most. Laine was going down before he was hit. NHL got this one wrong.
Plus that’s 4 less games for him in my hockey pool. |

Hope Poirier's okay. He might be ready for the Flames. They could use more offense from the D. |

In a 3 to 1 hockey game, with 5 seconds left on the clock... that's what you call a
CHEAP SHOT. |

It was too late in the game to have an impact on the game, but it was a high shot in which he launched himself through a defenseless player. Time on the clock means nothing to me. Save face and make an attempt to prevent the empty net goal, all good. Goal differential could be a determining factor of standings at season end so no foul on that part of the hit.
High hit on a defenseless player is where it starts. Part of the reason it was high is because Laine had just released his shot or dump out attempt and thus left himself in the position. That part makes the whole thing questionable to start. If Ras had just delivered a high shot in an attempt to prevent a shot on goal, I would say it could be reviewed by DoPs and a fine or 1 game. He has been fined in recent history (5k for roughing Yamamoto 2 years ago) so the fine was likely a no go, so 1 game.
The Issue to me is his launching thru Laine. The hit to begin with wasn't necessary but wasn't uncalled for. The hit it self to begin with is questionable, but not something to be too grossed out about to call for something ridiculous for supplemental discipline. But the launching thru Laine is where the discipline is necessary. For that he deserved some form of discipline. Probably 2 games max.
Because it's so early in the season, I think George Paros and crew tried to make an example of him, much like the refs call games a lot tighter early in the season. As soon as the hit happened I messaged a couple flames fans saying he would at least have a meeting and probably 1 or 2 games because he has used his freebie on the roughing fine. When it was announced 4 games, I knew immediately the suspension would be appealed, but figured it would be by player, not team.
IMO, the suspension will be appealed. And dropped to 3 games so the team gets one of their top 2 dmen back in time for the Heritage Game. League saves some face for making such a harsh decision while allowing a team to ice their optimal lineup for one of their premier events. Benefits the league enforcing a bit of a stronger show of enforcement that fans have been clamoring for for years. Yet still allows them to showcase their more optimal product for one of their premier events. Not that I believe the Oilers or Flames should be showcased as so at this time, especially if McDavid is injured as the game last night insinuated.
Just an anti-flames opinion on the situation.
Good luck all... except 1230. He can suck it, he can suck it long and hard. |

Maybe Laine shouldn’t have been padding his stats and admiring his empty net attempt in a 3-1 game with 5 sec to play. He should apologize to rasmus! And Apeal Anderson’s suspension for him. |

Yeah, Andersson couldn't get out of the scrum fast enough once Gudbranson sighted him in. I don't care what team you play for. If you're gonna take a cheap shot at a star player like that, at least grow a pair and answer the bell. Don't skate away while your teammates are still in it. |

I know you Canuck fans aren’t used to violence in a hockey game. Maybe stick to girls volleyball. |

Laine is a big man. Typically when you hit someone bigger than you, your feet will leave the ice when you impact them. Laine saw him at the last minute and tried to go down cuasing his head to impact into Ras's elbow.
None of you asshats seem to care about Rasmuss's elbow. You are all a load of jerks. |

It's all K-man's fault.
Honestly, all trolling aside. I thought it was a fair suspension. He was well on his way to jumping before contact. Overkill on a vulnerable opponent at a meaningless part of the game, injuring him. You'll have a hard time convincing me he wasn't hitting to hurt there. He blasted his entire mass into it and didn't have to. I'll bet it's upheld if he appeals. |

Yeah in all seriousness he could have gotten more games. Can’t head hunt like that anymore. Long gone are the days of Rock’em Sock’em Hockey. |

Wow what a load of crap !! You snowflakes even ever play the game ?? From day one you’re taught to play at full speed till the final whistle blows !! None of this the game was over BS and as for leaving his feet ya maybe after contact he come up a bit but that hit is nothing more than a standard hockey hit but you all been brainwashed into thinking it’s dirty , grow a set and man up it’s a full contact sport not curling like you should all go back to playing !!! And 4 games for a first time offender for a marginal hit is absolutely BS |

Sounds like you played a lot of hockey. I am going to go out on a limb and imagine although you played a lot of hockey you either:
A) Never had a concussion, nor hit someone so hard that they had to be hauled out on a stretcher, or
B) Had so many concussions that you can’t remember how many concussions you had

Not flexing here or anything but yes, I've played at a reasonably high level (USHL). In an era where if you hit a star player like this, the suspension was the least of your worries. Because, well, it's dirty and always will be.
I'm not about to devolve into name calling or chest pounding like you, but times change and unfortunately you're living in the past. 4 games is what that costs you now for taking a run like that whether you like it or not. It seems fair to me. |

This is why the game ruined why is it not the player getting laid out on the blue line which every kid WAS taught to treat as the danger zone where the big hits happen, and blame the guy smart enough to see the fool look down or think I’m a star no one will hit me ? This hit happened 5 times a game when the game was played by men and not prima donnas |

I’ve had concussions yup getting caught like he did thinking the game was over and I’m good enough that they know better than to hit the best players , and ya times changed I agree this game is played by hurt feelings and he was mean to me boys that forgot it’s full contact till the final whistle , so why not teach them the only one to protect them is themselves? And stop crying when you get caught with your head down at the blue line which is the number 1 no no in what used to be men’s hockey ?? |

Sounds like a Hanafin extension could be incoming. Wonder if he wants 8 years with the current market. I could see him going for 4.
Am I wrong in thinking locking these guys up into longterm contracts now might be the best way to go? In 2 years if they want to rebuild the cap will go up and teams will have $$$ to spend. Just seems like there was no market for trades this last summer. and I cannot see that changing much this year, |
