I don't mind the rule. Plus NHL Officials can't be trusted to make the correct calls. (See the infamous Duchene goal.) - tomburton99
I think there should be a time elapsed max from the off side to when the goal happens, I mean this was literally a minute and they had to look at the replay a thousand times to figure out if it was offside

Yep. Offside is determined by a line. That is finite. There is no grey area, no grace. If you want to score a goal, stay onside. The rule has been in place for over a century.

This is where they lose me. They should have about 45 seconds to review it and if they can't tell by then, call on the ice stands.

Yeah, I agree. Like if the Rangers were a victim of goal that was supposed to not count via offsides, and it counted, I'd be pissed.
but again, this the fault of the NHL. If these goals didn't count, we wouldn't need this many reviews.

I’ve been saying this for awhile. If the goal isn’t a direct result of the offsides, it should stand. For every zone entry, a 10-15 second clock should start. If a goal is scored after, it’s non-reviewable. I get that the team gets an offensive zone possession they didn’t deserve, but nothing can be perfect. How many plays are called offside when they shouldn’t have been?
What’s next, challenging a goal because the player didn’t 100% cross center ice before dumping it into the zone?
The league needs more goals, and calling so many goals back is bad for everyone. How about we keep a tally of how many botched offsides a linesman calls, and suspend them after a certain number. They need to be better.

The NHL needs Leon Stickle again. That guy didn’t miss any calls!

I would rather them call the offsides more often than not call one and a goal come back. There are so many times I watch a play that was borderline or even obviously offsides and they don't call one. I then have to hope the Rangers don't score on that entry. It's getting annoying. They appear to be using the replay as a crutch and letting borderline calls go.

Which is the best way to do it. Let it go, score, review. If it's offsides and the puck never leaves the zone, no goal. In the clip I posted, the Kucherov goal and Briere goal are goals in playoff games. Can't have that. Ever. Replay is there to make sure the call is correct.

Yep. Not to mention that we are trying to hold human beings to a standard of absolute perfection in being able to spot an offside when the play is getting faster and faster, more and more creative and there may be bigger and bigger bodies in the way.

That’s it in a nutshell. The game is way faster then when you were a kid in the 40s

Which is why if the call is fraction off, fine. Tough to be perfect on those calls. It's the obvious ones they let go is why we have to replay all of them.

The best way to do it is to not do their jobs adequately and rely on the challenge?

But some of these guys are just plain bad at their jobs.

This too. If it’s 50/50, blow the whistle. Less disturbance than allowing a goal to be scored, fans erupting, and 5 minutes wasted. Hopefully it’s addressed one way or another at some point.

Gus has been terrific. Can’t say the same about Wheeler. Tom gets a gold star for that lol I think he’s killing that line because they never have the puck, they just skate around trying to get it and are tired by the time they do.

I mean, sure. If they miss a call by an inch or two, yeah I'll cut them some slack. To be on 100% of the time.
But the point is: if the linesmen in the fraction of a second is unsure, call the play onside. If the result of the play is a goal, review it. If the puck is deemed to be offsides, no goal. If the play is on sides, goal. That's just my logic. Don't think it's hot take.

It doesn't benefit me or anybody that Wheeler has been bad. Again, it's not his lack of points. It's the way he plays.
Last night it happened again. Trocheck and Cuylle worked there tail off in the defensive zone. got the puck to Wheeler, Miller was joining the rush for a 4 on 2. Wheeler got the puck. Couldn't skate, dumped the puck. Flames got the puck in the corner and went up ice. That' can't continue to be the playbook for that line.
Wheeler did have nice pass in the 2nd period to Trocheck.

LaFranchise scored a beauty last night and had a strong, noticeable game. Lets hope he has actually turned a corner and that this is not simply a cruel tease...
