I don't even get the "out-coaching" argument anyway, they're a team on a rebuild, everybody has been saying we need to be patient but now for some reason we should think the team would be much better with another coach..? wtf.
- Pat1993

By out-coached, not making in-game adjustments or reacting to the other coach's in game adjustments.

Like... as one (of the many) examples... how many (frank)ing 6-5 goals in the last 3 minutes of a game are they going to give up this year? At some point you have to be ready to deal with that.

MSL is a good coach for this group now, in a development cycle.

But if he does not change, he will not be the right coach we need down the line.

That is my point.

I think we need to be as patient with the coach as with the team in general.

does he need to get better? yes. but is he affecting the team negatively right now in any way that is crucially undermining the team? to me the obvious answer is no.

Hopefully Suzuki can get back in the groove soon. The team is different when he’s not going.

I think he's excellent for player's develpoment, one on one with a player, individually they improve.
but as a group, the structure, the d zone coverage, the PP.... it's way below average.

Don't completely agree.

His lack of coaching acumen is impacting in-game adjustments / imposing on the players the need to adhere to those adjustments. Also players seems to be slowly becoming indifferent to bad PP habits, lots of giveaways, taking penalties that often occur because players are out of position, etc.. is not good for the player development.

Are those things they can overcome?

Sure.

But the sooner that starts, the quicker players are forced to adjust.

Would be nice to (1) give him a steady winger and (2) help him out a bit by not always being out against the other team's top line.

I get MSL wants to match top lines, but I think that limits Suzuki's ability to produce.

At least I am seeing effort from Suzuki, so the results will come.

personally I see this as the growing pains of a group, and not the ones caused by one individual at the helm of the team, but oh well, bygones I guess.

It sorta is... MSL really does not hold players accountable (the "Oh, just a kid making mistakes" excuse are getting old). And when most of his players are headed to the penalty box, can't exactly bench the whole team every game.

well he pointed out that Suzuki does need to be better, for example... I don't think he's just being cute and trying to run a (frank)ing country club.

I understand what you're saying but I really don't see it that way.

I'm talking about his skills as a coach Pat, so yes it's on him.
he's good at one thing, not much at the other.

I guess my overall point is that if we are going to be realistic (but fair) on player development (strength and weaknesses), the the coach should be up for the same treatment.

Again, MSL is the coach needed for right now, but he has yet to show development in becoming the coach we need in 2-3-4 years down the line.

His lack of progression is also impacting the team, as a whole, to develop.

Depends on what you want to be happy about this team.

The Habs are not going to win that many games this year.

I always said I would be happy / excited this season to see the team develop and progress. We have seen some progression from players already, which has been a good sign.

Have not seen it from the coach, so I think it is fair to be concerned in that area.

At least, that is how I expect to watch and enjoy the season.

Others likely feel different and have their own things that will make them happy as the season progresses.

I just think that it's refreshing to have a coach like MSL, and it sucks that some people still see the coach as a problem, as we've already extensively whined and complained about coaches, GMs and players in the past. not gonna lie it's just really annoying. oh well.
