Great post as always Jan. Agree with what you said. Outside of a couple games, the goaltending has been solid. It's good to see Lavi's impact early on with a different coaching style. Special teams seems to be getting better on each side. I agree that I need to see more from Kakko. He has been here long enough to step up. I would love to see that first line do more at 5 X 5. Second line looks great. 4th line is doing ok so far, but would love to see the occasional scoring chance, or better yet, a few goals. Expand the scoring threat so teams don't focus on shutting our key people. The third line also needs to find their game too. They have shown some flashes but would like to see more offensively. Defense has been good. Yes, there are the occasional gaffes, but I feel that will get better over time. I feel the coaching staff is working hard with this group and we will see improvements. Is it the perfect start? No, but I will take their record and the team finding ways to win in the meantime. What I really want to see is how they fare against teams in their division and conference. This starts on Thursday at home against the Canes. I have a feeling we will be seeing a more all-around cohesive team game in the very near future.

I think I have to like the job the head coach is doing. Haven't had this feeling in almost 10 years. Feels weird.

All contract talks are now on hold for a Flames organization that may be on the precipice of having to take a radical new approach.

5v5 is a bit of a dilemma. In order to score more, probably need to play a little looser, meaning more goals against.

Obviously would also help if the second/third lines start scoring, but think this is roughly what we will continue to see going forward. Relatively boring/defensively focused hockey 5v5 with elite special teams.

Damn I would absolutely love for Lindholm to be a Ranger. If we got him, where do we play him though? For me, it makes the absolute most sense to put him at RW on Panarin and Chytil's line. Hes excellent at faceoffs, plays RW or C, solid two way forward. Moving LAF up to the line with Kreider and Mika. I know that everyone is gonna freak out about taking LAF away from that line and worried he will get snake bitten again. However, hes been playing with a new found confidence that I feel shouldnt affect him. Its not like its a demotion, if anything it shows confidence from the coaching staff that they trust him to give a boost to that line.

Downside to all this, unless we can find someone to take Goodrow, its all pointless to talk about.

I would have said RW with Zib & Kreider. Move Kakko to L3.

Lindholm is a center pure and simple. Unless trocheck is traded or moved to wing it doesn’t make sense. Even with trocheck moving to wing you lose your best faceoff man. Lindholm is also great on faceoffs. Doesn’t really make sense

at the deadline they should have enough cap space to make a significant trade for a rental and likely will, they could always have Calgary retain half like they always do when they make deadline trades

Again, thats the obvious move with the fear of taking LAF off the line with Panarin and Chytil. If you put Lindholm with Panarin and Chytil, you take advantage of his faceoff prowess and he provides a defensive boost to that line. Putting him with Kreider and Zib, youre not taking advantage of his faceoff ability and adding him to an already good defensive line. You make 2 lines better instead of one.

That’s not what I said though. Mika, chytil trocheck all centers. None moving to wing, except maybe trocheck? But trocheck is even better than lindholm on faceoffs

None would move to wing, Lindholm would come in and play RW, like he has in the past, and would take the faceoffs on the line with Panarin and Chytil.

This was just wishful thinking on my part. Any move that could improve them 5 on 5 would help.

Still just 9 games in. I think we'll see that the more comfortable/instinctual they get with the defense, the more they'll be coordinated in their counter attack and 5v5 will improve. Either way, not a bad spot to start from.
