not sure how it all was decided but separating habs games on two different francophone channels was a horrible idea to begin with.

Yeah, I predicted at the time that the French market wasn't big enough for 2 sports network.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're forced to shut down, Peladeau wanted what Bell (RDS) had but it hasn't worked out like he wanted.

I, for one, never saw a need to subscribe to TVA Sport as I usually watch the games (they carry) in English.

What didn't help is that they are paying a lot to Sportsnet for those right. At least with rds, they have bell backing them. Coupled with the fact that most French viewers are only going to watch canadiens games, so they were paying a national deal price for regional network viewership

for sports, yes, because in terms of pro sports teams in Quebec there isn't all that much interesting to follow outside of hockey.

for news and everything else though you'd think there's enough people watching to have more, which is why TVA failing as a whole tells me that cable TV in general is just continuing its slow death as a media.

I suspect part of their bet was getting into the Nordiques coming back to QC.

I'm fully bilingual ... why not?

Apart the Habs, there's nothing on TVA Sport that ever interested me.

I am not surprised.

That team will not move until either Bettman leaves office or no new ownership interests can be found for that market (when the current owner gives up after failing to get a new arena, again).

They must believe the US TV contract with Arizona over Quebec is worth enough to justify the status quo.

yeah I've heard that story hundreds of times, and while it might make sense economically, as a hockey fan to me it makes no (frank)ing sense whatsoever.

I use to like the games in French when I was younger nad watching with my Dad's side of the family, then went off to University and rarely saw any games... when I had money to get Habs broadcasts, it was RDS and always the guys from L'antichambre and that just turned me off the French broadcasts completely.

Not sure how playing in an arena that cannot even support 5k fans makes for a good product, even for any 'Yotes fans.

But whatever... I am beyond given up on that team move, especially after they did everything in their power to stop the move to Hamilton, which should have happened, as well.

I'm fully bilingual but I've never watched the habs in English, and never will, not because I'd hate the English broadcast but for me it's always been a Québec thing. it's just the way it is lol.

yeah, was that about an investor acting too cocky for Buttman?

I'm kinda glad it didn't in a way, they already have two teams in Ontario, but I still would've preferred it over the Arizona bullpoop for sure.

Yeah, I get that.

Growing up, my mom would take us to my grandparent (her parents) on Saturdays for dinner and my and my grandfather would always watch the game in English (and I'd listen to my grandmother curse her Scottish words when someone (frank)ed up!).

That is how I got the initial bug, when I was like 5 years old, almost every Saturday night, until I left for University when I was 19.

I listen to RDS on occasions just to change things up ... but I must admit they get on my nerves after a while with their name pronounciations.

Tomache Plekanetse? Chimone Nemetse? Reinebakère? Really?

Don't get me wrong they're good announcers but they're trying way too hard with the French thing. It's a hockey game for Christ sakes not a litterary exposé at the Académie Française.

Anyway ... no big deal but it's just my pet peeve with them.

again though, if it gets on your nerves that's your thing, but it's the way the players actually pronounce their names, it has absolutely nothing to do with the French language.

Gave liligren a can opener. Liligren fell into the boards and looks like a broken ankle
