Torts more "stressed" now on the presser. But no "reporters" had the guts to ask about Torts historical bad PP record as a head coach in the NHL.

There was little risk to the Flyers not trading those players this past off season. When you're a team in the Flyers position. You don't lock yourself into a time frame and say, we have to trade this player now. They are in control here. They don't have to trade either player unless they first, want to trade the player. Secondly that they get the right deal. Flyers have screwed themselves a bunch of times by putting themselves in a position of announcing to the world that they're going to trade a player. Or putting themselves in a position of taking it on the chin because they have to move a player because of an issue with the coach or a cap issue.
- MJL

I’d argue this is exactly how you put yourself into the position you describe. When you're in a position the flyers are in and you have real value of players to trade whether it be at draft or tdl etc simply keeping players eventually puts you into position you described. Everyone knows the flyers position. It’s no secret. If a deal is there and a good deal holding these players to either get more down the line or whatever reason only prolongs what everyone knows they need to do or will eventually do.

By no means am I saying just pick a date and move them but the longer they keep them beyond key trade dates draft tdl etc the higher the risk.

Just pull the trigger on these guys

IMHO the eye test says this team is better this year but that is better than 7th worst. Without Coots the team is a mess up front. Without a #1 and #2 D the team is also a mess. And without their #1 goalie, they are beyond a mess. Not sure why anyone is surprised. Enjoy the hard work and play of the kids. Route for the older guys to put up points so they can be moved for future assets. Route for the youth to take a step forward. Hope someone trades us a young stud D or we draft one or two. Again, enjoy the hustle and sporadic good hockey.

York needs to watch a few games in the press box, really playing badly right now. Bring up Ginning for a game or two.

They recalled Belpedio and Mete instead of Ginning. Tells you all you need to know.

Torts mentioned the PP in the second period, and how the lack of PP scoring plus a few other plays changed the momentum of the game. Torts knows how bad the PP is, but the question I have is, does he have the coaching on his staff to fix it. I don't think so. I am not saying the Flyers have the talent to be a top 10 PP in the league, but they should be much better than they are now. When I watch the PP, there just does not seem to be any chemistry and players are just unsure of what to do. Maybe it is the lack of a top scorer that is needed, to align everyone else, but I think coaching is a big part of it also.

It does not tell me what you think it tells me. Torts addressed this in one of his recent hockey and hounds episodes. He said he has to be mindful with how many young and inexperienced players he puts out there on defense. He already has York and Zamula playing big minutes, he feels adding a 3rd young player will not be a good idea. As Torts put it, he still owes it to the players that are fighting hard in these games to give them the best chance to win. So it has nothing to do with a player like Ginning not playing well enough to be called up.

The Flyers are getting pretty much throttled but it's the 2nd game of a back to back against a superior team and the Kings didn't play last night. About what I expected.
- MJL

This game is another example of the skill gap between the two teams. The Flyers can't bury their chances, while LA buries just about every chance they have. I have not seem Pettersson make one big save in this game, while at the other end puck after puck from good shooting areas end up in the goalie's chest or pads. And for the love of God if I see Foerster shoot another puck off the glass ... what does it matter if you have a great shot and you can't get it on net!!

Bill,

How do I find the Game Number for scheduled NHL games? I used to be able to get the Event Summary from the NHL Gamecenter page but those documents are no longer readily available. I found them via URL search but need the Game Number to find the Flyers games easier. Is that published anywhere?

Belpedio did well for a bit but the last bit you can see why he is an AHL D. Seeler has also been struggling, could be the partner or just asking to much. Part of me thinks if Foerster gets one, he will be fine, the other part still thinks his feet need a lot of work. Cates has been invisible, less ice time maybe and Tippet, more time on his ass than his skates, he is fighting it. Could be a could be a sophomore slump, coupled by the team is young. LA showed the Flyers where they are, no excuse with Coots out or missing D, just a ways to go as a whole

Avs get smoked by Knights and while the Flyers schedule was not their friend, Pens had the perfect opponent.

Looking forward to next week when the Flyers play LA again. Seems we get to play them again on the 2 game of a BTB

San Jose.....0-10-1....1 point in 11 games.
They have scored only 12 goals in 11 games......

Feels like a for sure loss for the Flyers.

Both Forester and Brink are horrible skaters, and painful t watch. They both look like Bob Kelly only 10X slower (if you are not old enough, he basically ran on the ice). Cates, on the other hand, is a good skater but does not have Forester's shot or Brink's creativity. Seems like the Flyers are a bunch of mis-fit toys, a bunch of square pegs and round holes.
