Far better then they wanted to be? What does that even mean?
An inability to deviate from a pre-set plan is indicative of a failing with management. - kingcong39
im with you, i wanted them to trade for chychryn last season lol idk why you're mad at me
but i can see where they're coming from after 10 years of no foundational plan making them the worst franchise maybe in nhl history wanting to set out a long term plan and stick to it

Granato, general manager Kevyn Adams, and the players who spoke on the opening day of training camp were in agreement on what the expectation is moving forward and how they plan to approach it.
“Our expectation is to win the Stanley Cup. Period,” Adams said. “And, so, I don't want to get lost and all the other things that have to happen but here's the reality: To win the Stanley Cup you have to win four rounds in the playoffs. To win four rounds in the playoffs, you have to make the playoffs. To make the playoffs, you have to win a lot of hockey games.
“To win a lot of hockey games during the season, you have to be a consistent team, a resilient team, a team that is able to handle adversity, highs and lows, matures. Those are the things that add up. So, at the end of the day, if you peel it all back and you boil it all down, it's about getting better every day.”

They can have a long term plan that involves something more than just waiting out picks to peak for years and years.
Being proactive instead of reactive does not mean the plan deviates.
They could've taken advantage of career or near career years from several players and value deals, but decided to punt instead.
Based on the offseason, it looks like the same for this season. |

Big Murr would have picked up more than 4 points in 17 games down the stretch
he would have put the team on his shoulders
side note bjork had double greenways point total after the deadline last season - homiedclown

Need to get to OT , common sense
Especially when you’re tied in the 3rd period
We’ve lost 3 or 4 games without cashing in any points, tied in the 3rd |

would you have put girgens, krebs and okposo on the pp with 2 and a half minutes left in a tie game to ensure the loser point, or would you have gone for the win?

all im saying is last season i can see their reasoning for not doing it
this season i cannot
if there is not a single move made this season to ship out a prospect to improve the roster then we need to start doing our 2026 line projections with people we currently have

when playing against teams in the east
you really want to work harder to win in regulation so your enemy in the standings does not get a point

If you look at the Sabres schedule:

The only really unacceptable games have been the opener and the paid against Philly, which they split. Overall not bad. Treading water. - Buffalo--Sabres
Only thing that sucks is they've played the most amount of games in the east and haven't made much hay. Going into the season, the one thing I thought they absolutely had to improve on is to buckle down and stop the bleeding so they didn't lose more than 3 games in a row. Mission accomplished so far. I assumed they would be able to string a few wins in a row though and now that looks like its the issue this year. Still have time, but it would be nice to rattle off 4 or more wins in a row soon. |

even if you are overachieving?
when the bills won in miami and the bengals beat the ravens in ot and the bills playoff draught ended
several bills players expressed relief to get that monkey off their back
I am pretty sure the same could be said for many players in the sabres locker room

being tied with the islanders for 9th is ok
then you see they have 2 games in hand
and the teams 1 point below us have 1 or 2 games in hand
etc

Completely agree. They also committed a penalty in the last 5 minutes of the 3rd making it extremely difficult to tie it up. 5 on 5 with the goalie pulled isn't going to get it done. |
