Was Holl really the glue guy that held this backend together?
Also that video of galchenyuk was rough. Could only watch a couple seconds of it. - bryant
Holl could at least kill penalties. We are getting CAVED on the PK. |

Our D was always going to be suspect, outside of a season or so, it has always been suspect the past 7 years.
But now we have 3 injured D, two of which would play pretty big roles, and we added Klingberg, who we all knew was a defensive mess. So its understandable that our D would be this bad.
Should be a fun weekend. |

I think Keefe should have been replaced already.
But in looking at this team now, I don't think coaching is the main issue.
This just isnt a very good hockey team.
The defence in particular is dreadful. The fourth line is awful. The PK is terrible.
And if they get goaltending like they've got the last few starts, Scotty Bowman wouldn't be able to do anything with this poopshow. - fifty__missions
nothing another rick springfield show can’t fix👍
what a (frank)ing joke🤦🏿♂️

From the tweeter
"Chris Johnston reporting that Patrick Kane to Toronto is a real possibility, albeit a long-shot.
Hoping that Brad Treliving can work some of his magic to lure a 3-time Cup winner to the Leafs."
Ummm this wont help the D. |

I agree that coaching isn't the main issue, but it's definitely an issue.

The last thing any contender needs is Kane.
Kane needs a contender more than a contender needs Kane.

Back read this blog as I had hockey last night & only saw the first 2 goals.
What a poop show (as expected I suppose) in here.
The height of the poop show is reading poophawk and some Pens fan in here yapping about all that is wrong with the Leafs. Nothing like some passive aggressive trolling to top off the evening.
Waiting for the one not to be named to come in and pontificate about all the things wrong in Leafland since the Ottawa Tire Fire's won last night.
Why do they poop the bed against teams whose fans go from 6 to 12 and get out the jerkins lotion as soon as their poverty franchise wins against the Leafs? FAAAAAK
Was Woll average, m'eh or bad? From sifting through the usual BS and chicken little posts in here it sounded like he let in 1 or 2 softies (I can relate) and was hung out to dry on a few (I can also very much relate).
It's funny to see how many people say "I dont care about regular season success I just want playoff success" only to lose their poop entirely when the Leafs aren't in 1st place overall in the league in the regular season. I really don't GAS about regualr season, just gel, learn how to be better, and get to the playoffs and then put it all together.
Look it could be worse - they could be the Oilers or Sharks!
Go Leafs Go and Fak off freezing rain/snow (Lost power 3 times last night - that was fun).

So Galchenyk has some issies eh.
He needs help, hope he gets it.

As disgusting as that video is he clearly has some pretty serious issues I agree and he needs help. Will he get it over in mother Russia?
To someone else's point not sure we ever see him in the NHL again after that.
Good lord.

6 wins and 7 losses with losses to Detroit, Chicago, Ottawa. Keefe really has the boys playing hard this year. - Hockey_Reverend
It's hard to remember a time when the Leafs didn't play down to opponents who are not top teams (or terrible teams) and by play down I mean generally poop the bed and lose.
It's been that way for a long long time. I do believe it's a mix of arrogance and teams really circling the opportunity to embarrass the Leafs knowing full well it's likely one of if not the most watched game in the regular season they will play in.
Teams LOVE to beat the Leafs - we all remember the Jets acting like they won the cup because they won a Sat night regular season game in Toronto. I think that's more the norm and this was the one time the cameras caught it.
I also think there are some other teams that people love to beat like the Habs at home, Rangers and whomever won the cup the prior year but beating the Leafs is special.
If I had to pick which games they are dialed in and which the poop the bed (assuming it's unreasonable to expect them to be fairly dialed in vs everyone because that doesn't' seem to be something they can do) then I'll take the 'play down vs bad teams".
It's not like they don't meet good teams in the playoffs every year - in the first round! |

Agreed with the space stoner on this one - I don't want a soft but highly skilled winger, we have the modern day one already minus the cups.

That and the fact that he is well past his prime and that hip surgery should give any GM some serious concern. At this point, Kane would be more of a PP specialist and leadership guy. Those are good things for any team to have, but the Leafs have much more pressing needs in other areas to address with their limited cap space.

The Leafs were getting CAVED when Holl was playing 5v5. Paying the guy 3.4x3 to maybe be an effective penalty killer is something else. |

So with all of this talk about whether Woll is an "NHL quality" goalie or not, I'd like to know how many goalies in the NHL actually fit that bill. |

So far this year, based on stats.....James Reimer is one.
https://www.quanthockey.c...ns/nhl-goalies-stats.html
Edit - also Woll has better stats than the guy many thought should be signed to be the starter here - Connor Hell-a-buck & Woll's #'s are VERY close to the other guy many wanted Saros.
Yes it's early and yes the other teams are 'worse' than the Leafs apparently but right now Toronto's D is missing 50% of their top 6 so.......
It's early but Sammy looks like the 2nd coming of Campbell when he was cold soup and that ain't good. |

As an outsider I agree with your assessment on Klingberg. He was playing badly two years ago at Dallas and I'm amazed at the two contracts he's been given since.
I think I heard Friedman say that the Leafs should sit him for some games. It will be interesting to see what happens on the upcoming Sweden trip. Will the Leafs play Klingberg or sit him while in his home country. |

Klingon
Giordano
Liljegren
Timmins
Benoit
Lagesson
Lajoie
Niemela
From a depth perspective, we are fine
Just need someone to clear the net/PK
https://youtube.com/short...03Uc8?si=fH60iEQlTRgrQ_QN
Jenner, Anderson and Savard - mr.sir
Adding in some context ...
Rielly - solid top pair PP guy.
Brodie - solid 3/4 complimentary piece.
McCabe - bottom pair banger.
Klingon - bottom pair PP guy. Paid like a top 4.
Giordano - bottom pair grinder.
Liljegren - bottom pair all around guy with upside.
Timmins - 6/7 guy.
Benoit - extra/depth
Lagesson - extra/depth
Lajoie - extra/depth
Niemela - future/depth
No worries. Just missing a pair of top 4 guys that lean towards the big/defensive side of the game.
A few more weeks and we might have to add a veteran 'tender to the must have list. |

There's a handful of studs (Vasi, Demko, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Oettinger, Hellybuck, Saros, ?? ....) and then there's the guys who get the pleasure of playing in front of a Vegas or Bruins.

It literally would make us worse. Add in another forward who can't win a puck battle or back check. Why not?

Small sample size I guess. If this one doesn't statistically correct itself soon, it might lend some credence to the notion that "goalies are voodoo".
(frank)ing Reimer putting up 1.52 and .944% numbers. Who had that on their bingo card? - GalacticStone
I am goalie.
I am voodoo.

Yeah, I don't really see the fit of Kane with the Leafs, kinda like how he wasn't a great fit in New York when they also added Tarasenko.
But hey, goals are fun and he can do that!
