David Kampf has one job and he has done it poorly so far this season. The John Klingberg and Ryan Reaves deals have drawn the bulk of the scrutiny, but Brad Treliving committed $9.6-million to a defence-only 4C who in Year 1 of 4 already isn’t earning his keep.
Ouch. - dozerD10
We know he can play well.
Hes just having an off season so far. |

The whole Rielly can’t defend bit seems really overstated to me. He’s +6 on a team that is -3 and certainly seems to be getting the toughest assignments. It sure doesn’t look like he’s being propped up by Brodie - kind of the opposite in fact. He’s not a banger and things worked really well when he was paired with Schenn but he actually is a defenseman.
You may have numbers that suggest otherwise but based on what I’ve seen, he’s right up with Matthews, Nylander and JT in terms of best performers so far this year.
Leafs need McCabe to show he can play decently on a second pair and for someone (Gio?) to babysit Klingberg on the 3rd. - Canada Cup
Totally objectively: Rielly isn't a good defender - but he's been a bit more physical this year and he has been more aware. It shows in his all around game. He's been excellent. In one of my earlier posts I said the same as you: " [the Leafs] with the notable exceptions of Rielly, Tavares, Matthews and Nylander - have not been playing well.".
I have the same concerns that Morgan Rielly doesn't know how to play a 2 on 1 properly, nor will be pin a guy to the wall or clear the front of the net by making life utterly miserable on the opposition - but that's not his role nor my expectations. He is excellent at what he does and he's doing so without being a liability on the other side of the puck.
But if you can give him the freedom to control the play, he is very good at it and that will help dictate where the puck is and isn't - meaning it's not in our end as often when Rielly is on the ice. |

Going to be interesting if they go and add Kane. Another forward so have to wonder what that will do there and who comes out.
Honestly Klank was never a good add at all. There is no insulating him and anyone paired is going to just look brutal. Havent replaced Muzz and it shows.
This point you make the easy move. Keefe goes and you get the reset in systems and how we play. Someone like Gallant who has a strong structure to the game. Odds are just getting rid of the blender game would start to help. Then Tree can go to work trying to fix things best he can. - Roadrunner75
Someone would have to be moved out for kane.
Plus the way the leafs are playing, why would he want to sign here right now?
Who moves out bert or domi? |

Which makes it interesting. Who moves? Have to think it would be tied to some sort of trade. Is Tree lining up a move for a d packaging a forward and d to make room for Kane up front? |

He isn't good, but compared to John Klingberg . . .
Holl falls into that bucket of 5/6 defensemen who are all okay. He's basically Cody Ceci. As soon as you elevate him into a top-4 role you're going to have problems, but he'll be okay in an emergency for a game or two.

I'm named after my dad, who is also named after his dad. I'm the "3rd" I suppose and I guess one day if I'm feeling regal I'll throw it on a email signature. lol
My old man wasn't a hockey fan, in fact not really a sports fan at all.
My grandad was a Rangers fan............now now don't get a chubby Peter21 I'm talking about these Rangers:

The one thing I don’t understand about reaves is how he looked the first 2 games. He was great. Good hits, momentum changing fights, but then what happened after those 2 games? Is he hurt? Was he told to calm it down a bit?
The team looked different those first 2 games and now they all look afraid of their shadow again.
Something off going on in the locker room? |

OK, I'll play.
The Athletic lists five teams:
Rangers
Panthers
Red Wings
Sabres
Leafs
Now according to various sources at various times, here's what's important to Kane:
- winning another Stanley Cup
- multi-year contract
- playing close to Buffalo, because apparently his dad is terrified of flying (feel free to correct me if I've got this one wrong).
Rangers, Panthers and Leafs are the only ones with a legitimate shot this year.
Panthers are too far.
Rangers are 6-7 hours away by car in the winter.
So the Leafs are two hours away, and although struggling right now, have a legit shot.
How did I do? |

The Leafs finished 31 points above Detroit last year.
And Yzerman was once so lacking in leadership, they tried to trade him to Ottawa.
I just checkmated your battleship. |

Why the frank would anyone ever watch Scottish football?
It's been almost 40 years since a team other than Rangers or Celtic won it.
It's been almost 60 years since neither team was in the final.
In 127 years, Rangers have won it 55 times, Celtic 53 times, and the rest of the league has won it 19 times.
What the hell is the point in even watching?
