Man the organization doesn’t even k it of he’s a quality Pro goalie yet. He just hasn’t played enough. I think he is all day a Pro goalie but in all seriousness you can’t say that yet at 32 games high in one season.

I personally think he will be and NHL backup when all said and done. Best case at an NHL level is a 1b in a 1a/1b situation.

Fortunately, there are scouts/mgmt who assess goalies on more than minor leagues stats and/or how cool their name sounds.

My comment was more on the overarching part of the discussion. Do I think Woll is an AHL calibre goalie? I think he's better than that. Do I think he's established himself in the NHL? Almost there. Do I think he doesn't look as good tonight? Yes.

The Leafs aren't exactly making things easy for their goalies. Klinger is being relied on too much and our 4th line is an absolute disaster.

How about instead of picking an unnecessary fight - Woll isn't looking as comfortable tonight. His glove has been a bit slow, it's been more ineffective at trapping the puck, his rebounds have been ok, but not as controlled as we've seen them and his net positioning / poise is a lot busier than it is when it's on top of his game.

For all intents and purposes he is an AHL goalie until he's established himself as an NHL goalie. He's been excellent more often than not in his short NHL career - but so far this year he has a 40% quality start percentage. His two elite games that have buoyed his stats were relief games against Tampa after Sammy crapped the bed.

So I want this kid to be great - but so far he has work to do on his consistency and especially as a starter - where I do have higher expectations.

Being claimed off waivers doesn't mean you automatically are an NHL goalie. Means you have the potential to be one or they like you for their AHL team (or potential for AHL). It doesn’t mean you are definitely having an NHL career.

Easier way to view this: Let's say every goalie made $5m flat, regardless.

Would Woll be claimed on waivers? I think probably - but it would be dicey to determine where in the list of 64 goalies he'd slot in . . .

This type of conversation - and I would love it if you could have one without moving the goalposts - works best if you figure what an adequate level of talent and consistency to be an NHL goalie is.

The point is that he has a lot of potential but he is still working on consistency.
