Your ignorant if you think the NFL is a cash cow just because of fantasy football and sports betting. It's a bad opinion that it is a bad product. The facts say otherwise. Stating that many folks share it is a fallacy. - MJL You really do struggle to have adult conversations with someone that disagrees with you don't you? Calling me ignorant and saying I have a bad opinion just cause it differs from your precious opinion is childish, and you are embarrassing yourself on here this evening. Anyone and everyone knows that a huge part of the NFL is the betting and fantasy football leagues, and there is no denying it. I used to be a huge NFL fan, but now I barely go out of my way to watch a game unless I have a BET on it or it's between two of the better teams and I am FAR from alone on this. |

You reap what you sow. You started with "well you tried". That's when the kids gloves come off and I show you how uninformed you are. On pretty much everything. Someone who routinely childishly puts down others for enjoying other sports and other sports teams has no standing to judge anyone on anything. You don't like the NFL so it's a bad product. There is no such thing as an adult conversation with you. You would have to act like an adult to have that. You're welcome. |

Lack of national TV contracts is the big culprit. 5 of the 6 originals generate the biggest share of the revenue. The NFL dwarfs both the NBA and the NHL. - Minnyhock
Haha, and the league pulled the games from ESPN/ABC/Disney and gave it to OLN, lol. Right as Sid and OV and Kane were coming into the league, too.
Imagine all the potential growth they left on the table by doing that.

The NBA is always going to make more money than the NHL in this country. - Phillywhiteout
There was a point in time when the NHL had a legit fighting chance but they blew it.
As people have said: it's the best game in the world, but the worst league. |

Iām not that old so donāt really recall a time when the leagues were neck and neck. I imagine the takeoff or nail in the coffin for the NBA was Michael Jordan? |

Naw, Gretzky was just as much of a household name as Jordan at the time, especially after The Trade.
The leagues were near revenue parity as recently as the early 2000s. Very different trajectories since then. |

My recall may be bad. But I think that ESPN opted out of the contract after the 2004-05 lockout. The 3 lockouts have been disastrous for the NHL. Horrendous management to not be able to avoid that. Then the pandemic nuked them again.

League chased the bigger offer from OLN/Comcast. Disney/ESPN declined to match.
And yeah, the constant lockouts were a huge factor as well. |

IIRC the NHL didn't like that the games were often on ESPN2 instead of the main channel.
But then they jumped to a network that wasn't even carried by a lot of cable providers so yeah... weird logic. |

They look a hell of a lot more engaged this year. |

Well that was fun to watch.
Eresson looked good. I expect Sanhiem and Tippet to sit next game for their fancy skills resulting in lucky goalsā¦š¤Ŗ
Also, that Leo Carson kid looks alright, eh? |
