I just received the new prospect report article from the Hockey News yesterday. It has Michkov ranked at #14 and Gauthier ranked at #20. They also have Foerster ranked at #63. The Flyers are actually on the front page of the magazine, and an article was written by Wayne fish on the up and comers (Michkov, Gauthier, Bonk and the goalie that they just drafted last year). |

Well, the Ed Snider foundation has tried to help to get inner city kids involved in hockey. In fact, I think one of those kids has a shot at making it to the NHL. Hockey is an expensive sport and there isn't really anything anyone can do about it. However, it has grown dramatically in the last 20 years at the younger levels. I grew up in a basketball family and we weren't rich by a long shot (middle class). All the kids that had doctors and lawyers as parents had all the equipment and so on. My Dad wasn't very supportive due to the cost, but I baled hay in the summers and helped pay for it. Could go on and on, but the reality is true that it will always be a niche sport in this country due to expense and exposure. The other part of the equation is simple climate. Canada has a cold climate and kids naturally grow up playing ice hockey while much of the U.S. has a warm climate where kids simply don't grow up playing ice hockey. - Phillywhiteout
When I was a kid it was weird if you didn’t play hockey. But the cost grew and it became tougher and tougher. You are correct about the climate. It basically used to start snowing around Halloween and stopped late March. I had two out door rinks, one in a park beside my house and one two blocks away…with my team and that free ice I was on the ice 7 days a week. But like anything that all changed and the cost priced many families out of it. All the good kids are on travelling teams and those costs can get high for you average middle class family…the price of equipment is crazy now. I bought (myself paying for) my first pair of skates 3-4 years ago…700$. |

So you just want all kids to play? Yeah, that'll work out well. - Phillywhiteout
Oh my goodness, where did I say that?

Michkov may be the best player today not playing in the NHL. |

The lakes around here barely freeze at all anymore with this new bogus climate that we have. Wow, about the cost of skates. The last pair that I bought (about 10 years ago) was $200. Guess I'm in for some serious sticker shock if I choose to get another pair (although with two bad knees I'll probably just keep the ones I have).

The post was made knowing that you would have no clue about what he was talking about. You proved him correct. The ongoing conversation was about the popularity of major sports and how the NHL ranks. Soccer is a more popular sport in the US than NHL hockey is. Try and follow along.

I guess I must have missed that riveting conversation. You really need to understand that some people have lives and don't live on here 24/7 like you do. I would need to see proof that the MLS gets better ratings than the NHL cause that seems hard to fathom. Buh bye! - Phillywhiteout

I showed you the numbers for McAvoy, you just don't want to admit you are wrong. But just in case you had your eyes closed, who was the Bruins best defenseman last year?
McAvoy 2022-23 67gms 7g 45a 52pts +29 22:18mins
Lindholm 2022-2023 80gms 10g 43a 53pts +49 23:11mins
More games, more minutes, more points and a much, much better +/-. I think the answer is crystal clear, don't you? An elite defenseman who isn't even the best defenseman on his own team - jd250
McAvoy was injured. If he played 80 games last year he would have put up 60-65 points. I don't understand your arguement. |

Yes I do. So does pretty much everyone else. A 28 year old stop gap veteran doesn't morph into a future core player on a rebuilding team. - MJL
Who stated Walker was a core player??? Not everyone on a 23 man roster is a core player. Walker is a RHS bottom pairing defenseman that can QB a power play 2nd unit and make the right play at the right time, at least that is what he has shown me this year so far. You have core players, and then you need solid complimentary players. Walker so far shows me he can be a solid complimentary player. |

If guys like Farabee, Foerster, York Zamula, Tippet, Brink, Cates and Ersson all progress or at least improve (which they will) then it hopefully won’t be 5 years…the Flyers lack Elite Skill but have some talent in these guys and some good prospects in Lehigh. They also have their last two high end 1rst round pick on the horizon. It’s not like they started with nothing. It was only 2-3 years ago that that the prospect pool was considered near the top of the league…some of those guys have not quite progressed to what many thought they would be but some are starting to show glimpses. Could it take 5 years? Sure. But if that’s the case then it to me is another failed FO.
Edit: 5 years the “Hextall plan”. - landros 2
I think it only takes 2 elite players to add to a good roster to become a true contender. Easier said than done I know, but I like what the Flyers are building here. They have good players, just not elite players. I project they will get at least one, maybe two in the next two or three years.

It is unlikely the Flyers have an elite player on their team in the next two to three years. They may have a few that can develop into an elite player but that will take time.
