I also don’t see how a deal behooves either team.
We’re still building. This is the kind of move you make when you’re ready to lay down the gauntlet. Adding Drai is a waste of the rest of his prime years and will keep us at arms length of the draft picks we need to achieve a stronger youth movement.
Don’t get me wrong. He’d be thrilling to watch. It’s just not our time.
Plus, the guy has 1 year left on his deal I think? Why give up all your bargaining pieces for a man who can skate toward the biggest bag?
Pretty sure we’re all in agreement with that, right? |

They need two things, right? Goaltending and they need to improve their defense. They're trading an elite player in the NHL. A top 10 player, if not top 5. A 3 time 50 goal scorer and a 4 time 100+ point player. In your hypothetical, a goalie is not included and the defenseman included is at best, on a top team, a #3 defenseman to this point in his career. Why would Edmonton make that deal? If they're trading for a defenseman, don't they want a top NHL defenseman in return for an elite player? Why do fans routinely think that quantity can fetch you quality? - MJL
In real terms, I don’t know what moves the oilers could actually make mid season to fix this mess. They need a big upgrade on d along with a tender. The simple answer is to trade picks and prospects for this while getting a team to take on some bad contracts. Also, they can’t wait to the tdl because they’re trying to win now and will likely be out of a playoff spot by January if they don’t turn it around soon.
Holy trading from a position of weakness. Exactly where you don’t want to be. |

To be fair, I think this is all hypothetical which is fine. If there’s a trade out there for Edmonton, it’s not with us.
I want db to focus on really taking desperate teams to the wood shed for prospects and picks this tdl if someone wants our vets. Have a solid draft to restock the cupboard with d prospects. Likely do the same next year and see where we stand. |

There’s really nothing being built here. They have zero top pairing dmen on the team. There is one top line forward on the roster (konecny). He likely won’t be around for long as they should cash him in and reload. They need a much better coach in the AHL to develop bottom nhl roster pieces properly.
This team is treading water like any other team skewed towards the bottom. There is no building or culture crap. Cutter is a guy ever team has in their system, nothing special. Michkov is a kid in Russia. |

We’d be looking at futures from the oil for sanheim/hart type of deal. |

The flyers do not have the assets to trade for LD, nor do they have the coach that would utilize him correctly - corduroy
It would be fun to watch LD's offensive numbers drop, like every other offensive star under Jorts |

Frost would be a throw in. Ld would be a healthy scratch most games under torts |

Yea it would need to be multiple moves to get that roster going. You’d need to give them players to help the current roster and the draft capital to make subsequent moves. |

Yahoo says Carter is starting tonight. If he indeed had food poisoning like the report says I woud be surprised he is better so soon. |

Do you believe what the org tells you regarding player injuries? |

Both 2024 firsts? I keep those unless you get a stud dman prospect on the cusp of the nhl. We’re going to need both of those picks to rebuild the d corps imo - Hextall271
This. D-fence!
I’m desperate for anyone on this list that isn’t a flyer already.

The worst thing Edmonton could do is make a panic trade to try and save this season. If there is a move that makes sense that could help, make it. Don't sell the farm. I doubt they trade Draisaitl and they shouldn't. Work internally to improve and if they don't make the playoffs. Take the higher draft pick. They're likely already out of the playoffs. Majority of playoff positions are decided by around Thanksgiving.

You were on the right track until your last couple of sentences. Then you derailed. Both Gauthier and Michkov have the potential to be top players.

We are only 3 top tier forwards and 2 top pair d men away from being contenders.
In all seriousness, you're not going to get that in one trade and draft. Draistal is a top line player with or without McDavid.
Draistal and Bouchard might not move the needle immediately but you can build.
Hart, Sanheim, Farabee or TK and one of our 2nd round picks for Leon (27 years old) and Bouchard. |

Edmonton would not make that trade. Again, it's trying to trade quantity for quality.

I feel like everything is clarified based on whether Couturier is in the line-up, like he is some sort of God. In reality he is just another 30-something, good player that skates like a sloth, and very soon will be extremely overpaid, especially if he has to sit out every 3rd game |
