I agree, he would help more than Kane IMO, especially with how good he is on the Dot. |

Amazing what a GM can do when trying...
>>> The Penguins moved (almost) all their bad contracts to acquire Erik Karlsson and the only worthwhile asset they gave up was a lottery protected 1st round pick.

I'd bet if Adams brought in Karlsson he could've got Dahlin and Power to sign to more team friendly terms.

Point to this when the Sabres/Sabres fans say they can’t trade VO.
Is it they can’t or refuse to take anything less than overpayment.

The NBA tournament games also count as regular season games.
It will be interesting to see if fans give two poops about it. I know I wouldn't, if I was an NBA fan. - Atomic Wedgie
I think it could be fun, we even talked about having a league wide prospects tourney each year. There are options. Agreed it would be interesting to see if it caught on. |

I suggest you look up what the NBA is doing and then reassess the above. - kingcong39
Why? The NBA in season tourney has knockout rounds. If a team doesn't care about this Cup, then they don't try. What did I miss? Apologies if I'm being dense here. |

well 2 of those bad contracts they got rid of were included in the karlsson trade
san jose was able to eat a bad contract because they were getting 11 million off their books
unless the sabres are trading for karlsson with VO in the package, this isn't a realistic comparison

theres 3 teams with cap space to take olofsson
5 teams with cap space to take olofsson at 50%
anyone else would have to include a bad contract to take him so then whats the point
arizona, maybe seattle at 50% are the only realistic places to trade VO
it aint happenin
waive him, either he goes to rochester or chicago claims him. thats it. |

I believe the idea was to rip off European soccer - which has an in-season tournament.
But they don't have playoffs.
I prefer the North American system of regular season (granted, it doesn't mean as much) and then playoffs.
And maybe I'm overthinking this, but if the NHL did it, the trophy would be a joke in comparison to the Stanley Cup. The Bettman Trophy (or whatever) would seem so insignificant in comparison. |

right, and it works in europe because they either have other competitive international teams (champions league) so you play teams you don't otherwise play
or they have multiple tiers of leagues that all compete in a domestic cup.
they also have much larger rosters with many substitutes who can get starts in against lesser competition in said tournaments
the tournament also being the regular season and also being against all the same teams you already play is like... what is the point at all

They are playing for big cash and a free trip to Vegas.
The knockout round doesn't happen until group play is complete.
All games are part of the regular season schedule except the title game.
>>> What are the awards and prizes?
Players on a team that loses in the quarterfinals: $50,000.
Players on a team that loses in the semifinals: $100,000.
Players on a team that loses in the championship: $200,000.
Players on a team that wins the championship: $500,000.
>>> All 30 teams have been randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on won-loss records from the 2022-23 regular season. Beginning Nov. 3 and continuing through Tuesday, Nov. 28, each team will play four designated Group Play games on “Tournament Nights” – one game against each opponent in its group, with two games at home and two on the road.
>>> Eight teams will advance to the Knockout Rounds: the team with the best standing in Group Play games in each of the six groups and two “wild cards” (the team from each conference with the best record in Group Play games that finished second in its group). The Knockout Rounds will be single-elimination games in the Quarterfinals (played in NBA team markets on Monday, Dec. 4 and Tuesday, Dec. 5), Semifinals and Championship. The qualifying teams will compete for a prize pool and the new In-Season Tournament trophy, the NBA Cup.

That's why Trades are so hard, these 5 year evaluations aren't good for asset management sometimes. |

Pointed out a few times recently that KA was a 1st rounder who didn't stick in the NHL until 25. That's part of the equation here. He doesn't expect them all to stick immediately, or even get a real opportunity to.
I don't think he's planning on being proacticve on this, rather, just planning to let the kids fight it out and the losers play in Roch.

Don Granato confirmed that the Sabres are leaning toward starting Eric Comrie in Winnipeg on Friday night.
Just need to get the final go-ahead from the medical staff. He'll also have to be activated off IR. |

That seems like chump change for basketball salaries. I believe the average salary is closing in on $10m. Do you think there'll be that much drive for them to play hard? On top of those salaries they'd have three times the incentive to prepare for the Finals, no? |
