From a 4-1-0 start to 4-4-2 in their last 10 is not regression?
- manvanfan

On an extremely small sample size, yes, but over a 15 game span it’s still an over .500 team. I thought they were going to be crap?

There’s still plenty of time to fall apart for any team.

Almost every team does not have the depth on their farm systems. Most NHL skilled players are already playing in the watered down NHL.

I believe Canucks are a top 10 team and do have top 10 depth. Hirose has played NHL games and looked fine and so has Wolanin. If a forward goes down their are a number of players to chose from Podz. Bains Aman Dries Hogs.

It's more a season/Cup outlook than a "who's the hottest right now", but:

Like I thought about the Oilers... not in his top 5.

Yes I think they are. Cup contenders. I could be wrong but it is my opinion.

I never said they were going to be crap

I said they would regress from an .800 team. Also I said I doubt they would make the playoffs.

I also said that I thought there last two top 10 picks were a bit overrated. Also that their prospect pool is quite a ways away from being helpful if they ever do to the big club.

OH FFS the shootouts are bad enough after 3/3 unsolved. Just go to ten mins of 5/5 and if no winner each team gets a point and moves on. If it ends on OT winner gets 2 points the loser nothing. Want teams to play hard instead of playing for the loser point? Take it away.
- LordHumungous

I have mixed feelings about ties and long OT periods. I don't particularly like the current format but I don't hate it either. So I would be fine if they left it alone.

I mean, why not, right. They’re playing really well. They are going to regress on their winning and shooting percentages (I think I read that as it’s not sustainable) but sometimes you can be the better team and still lose, on the other hand you can be the worse team and still win.

I never said, you said they were going to be crap, although I probably implied it….sorry.

Just the general sentiment this summer that Yzerman had no clue what he was doing, thus I thought I’d keep an eye on them to see how they do this year.

Start out 4-1-0 and you praise the Yzerplan but now it's 4-4-2 and the sample size is too small.

The regression has already started. 34 goals in the first 7 games. 21 goals in the last 8

Regardless of how it plays out I’ll be watching to see if they continue to be a plus .500 team. Yzerman is a hockey genius, although he is clearly still building. They have lots of holes yet. I don’t think he wants to see Ottawa have a top five pick, as they have the Red Wings pick.

*Conditions: Detroit has the option to send their own or Boston's 2024 1st round pick. In the event the Bruins' 2024 1st round selection is a top-10 pick, Boston can retain the pick and transfer their 2025 1st round pick instead. Detroit will then have the option of sending Boston's 2025 unprotected 1st or their own 2024 1st to Ottawa.

There D has Chariot, Holl, Petry, Walman, Gostisbehere.

That’s the clearly still building part. That’s worse than the past two seasons in Vancouver for defense.

Allvin is a God damned genius.

I believe they were top 10 or 11 in scoring last year so we always knew they could put the puck in the net.

They have acquired better bottom six players who play at both ends of the ice well and the goaltending has improved 300 percent.

If anything IMO, last years poor performance was not sustainable with Demko.

You have players right now like Kuzmenko and Beauvillier who are underperforming and even Garland whom I like is not putting up proper numbers of what he should be reaching.

I also think Canucks will make one more big D acquisition before TDL which again should make them better.

No they wont score 400 goals but they should be around in Spring still playing. Also other teams have fallen off like the Flames Oilers Kraken Avs.

Looks like scoring is needed as well still.

Edvinsson and Wallinder are growing slowly in the minors.

Lucas Forsell with an assist in Champions league action today. Still under 10 minutes in the game. Time to get him away from his Swedish team.
