Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for a dangerous trip on NY Islanders’ Bo Horvat.
The equivalent of less than $59 for someone making $100,000
I don't care, but it's definitely funny |

I honestly have no issue with anything regarding Pageau. My opinion, for a couple years before they got him, was that he'd be a perfect fit on a Trotz/Lou team and I still believe that.
1)That said, the cap was flat for a long time and unfortunately after they retained Lee/Pelech/Pulock there wasn't a ton of flexibility to bring in any better talent. Not to mention acquiring that kind of talent isn't really super easy.
2)Nothing is black and white. They kind of had to keep Lee around but it was pretty obvious once he signed his deal that it was going to be an anchor on the back-end of it and that's where we are now. He should really be bought out in June if they can't find anyone that wants to take that deal without the Islanders retaining significant money or giving up high draft picks to facilitate the trade.
3)There's no fast path to rebuilding unless some of the guys with NTC's want out and are willing to waive. Unless they really (frank) over Barzal and Sorokin and trade them before their trade protection kicks in. - eichiefs9
1) and 2) I agree with 100% and may I add it’s refreshing to read a competent and honest opinion on the state of affairs with the Isles currently. Instead of an emotional tirade finding blame with everything the team has done in the last 6 years. I said it before, the window for winning for each team is limited and most trade the future for the ultimate success now. If going to the ECF isn’t an indication a team is close and should go for it then I don’t know what is. Most of the time the percentages are against doing this but typically you need to add to your team to win it all.
This is want entices most to go this route and sometimes it does work.
On 3) I would disagree a quick rebuild isn't possible. Now that would depend on what you deem a quick rebuild. If you think a quick rebuild is 2 to 3 years then I think they have players other than Barzal, sOrOkin, Dobson, Romy, Holmstrom which teams looking to add being in their winning window would want for a Po run.
I think if they continue their losing ways on this road trip, Lou will change the coach.
If this works fine. If not we may see the ownership group show Lou the door and bring in another GM to rebuild the team and staff moving forward. |

How is just adding a very old Chara and Parise going for it? Same for just adding Romanov the following year. The issue is how Lou went about going for it. Nobody was looking for a rebuild after the two ECF trips. For whatever reasons, Lou did not make the moves necessary to get those teams over the top. Nobody said it was easy to do. I just expected more for a Hall of Fame GM. |

Also, I’ll add you never sacrifice a known, young, commodity for mediocrity. That’s not being emotional that’s just terrible asset management. That’s not going for it that’s being stupid. Period. Look no further then the Rangers a team that’s “going for it” and their young players that have done nothing short of struggle since coming to the nhl and look at them now. I guess we sure did “go for it” in a really great way. Is that “refreshing” 🤡 |

I loved the Lou hire and stand behind it. You just cannot justify many of his moves and especially for teams that went to two ECF finals. This is not a personal Lou beef. I would have the same feelings for any GM who made these same moves. I did not even kill Lou for the Toews move. I also backed Lou with the Robin contract offer. Wish we saw more of that Lou.

Lou did good for this organization as I already stated. The problem is that Lou, like everyone else in the NHL, has a shelf life. His ran out as soon as trotz was gone which was the undeniable best thing he did for this team. Since then he has been more of a detriment to the present and the future of this team. Pretty much everything else he has done for this team has been middling to down right crappy like his most recent moronic signings. That’s just a a fact. Time to move on. Firing the coach doesn’t fix the problem. |

Yep! Lou has done good things for the Islanders. I would have done more of an internal housecleaning when Lou was hired. Lou's work with this roster has just not been good. Again, we can talk taxes and being in the Rangers shadow. These are just excuses. Regarding the Rangers, they have all these injuries, and they keep winning with no excuses.

The Islanders probably do not make the playoffs if not for the play in and those teams struggled under Barry outside those two playoff runs. Players like Leddy and Toews skating the puck out of trouble was huge. Lee and Palms were also younger along with Bailey, Beau, Eberle. Al Arbour and Scotty Biwman together behind the bench could only do so much with this roster. - ses111
The roster Barry had success with is very similar to the one Lame inherited

I’m not sure ownership is willing to cut ties with Lou just yet. They still have a building to pay for. I think we see Lame replaced before Lou. Not saying that’s the answer, but I personally thought the coaches should have all be shown the door after the failed PP in the playoffs and the inability to adjust.

I'll say both did not have great rosters. Barry is a much better coach than Lane, but even Barry could only do so much. Barry had his struggles with this team when it was full NHL seasons.

In hockey there is a cap. Now I know you know how to manage the cap ( especially when it was flat unexpectedly for years ) better than Lou but I’ll give Lou credit for taking this excuse of a professional hockey team on and off the ice to respectability and make the PO’s for 4 out of the first 5 years of him being here. I think that’s successful and as a fan enjoyed the ride. Certainly something to route for and maybe even a touch of belief for a team I route for. I think Parise was a bargain and Chara was good for the team and certainly for Dobson’s development at a price that fit under the cap.
Now I know you want a cup and so does every other hockey fan but so does Lou and the rest of the organization believe it or not.
Amazing people constantly bring up Toews. It’s comical really because those were the same people female doging and moaning how bad he was in the POs. But now, now when he plays with Makar and wins a Stanley cup. Those same people bring up the trade. At the end of the day was it a bad trade? Probaby but would he have the numbers he has playing with the most dynamic defenseman the NHL has seen since Orr. Comical how smart the internet GMs are.
Now carry on with the Captain and Tennille
2023-24 Piss and Moan Tour. However just a
Touch of advise. Change up the set list it’s getting really really old. Almost as old as Jimmy D

Trust me your constant love of Lou is tiring and makes you just plain wrong. I made my points, and most hockey people and fans would agree with me. Regardless, this team is a mess and Lou is responsible for his decisions and not Garth or anyone else. If the Pens did not choke, the Islanders would have missed the playoffs two years in a row. When you have a Hall of Fame GM and coach, the expectations will be huge. |

Well I think your argument is totally historical because since Lou came here the team has made the POs for 4 of 5 years. So where I come from this is a results biz and 4 out of 5 PO years with 2 ECF births is pretty successful.
Ypu have a lot of excuses and if’s why the Isles succeeded except for the biggest change to this team since they drafted Dennis Potvin and that change was hiring Lou Lameriello. No love for Lou I could give a poop if he gets canned or not at this point. I just give credit where credit is due.
There isn’t a person in the biz that would not agree with me me on that.

If the ECF trips were real and not a fluke, then taking a step back from those runs is a failure. Last year was a gift playoff trip by the Pens to be fair and the team did not exactly have a good showing against the Canes. Lou was the right hire at the time, but his time has come. Really hard to argue this.

Another gift PO trip by the Pens. Isles are loved.
There are so many teams that earned a ECF birth and then didn’t go further or even make the PO’s. To judge success by not moving further to me is crazy. It has happened more than not to teams in the past. Those teams didn’t have a cap that froze or a cap at all.
You can continue to believe that the 2 ECF births were not real. Let me add that every team dealt with the same issues and conditions. Honestly it’s a shame that you feel that way and didn’t enjoy the runs. |

I don’t disagree at all. There’s no way they fire Lou but how anyone can’t connect the dots with what I’ve stated today and not see it all leads directly back to him is beyond me. The long term pain we’ll more then likely endure is entirely on Lou as well. The zero accountability for an inept coaching staff is all his as well. With all of this said either he’ll be here next season or his son. Neither should be but I wouldn’t expect anything else. |

I loved those runs like I loved the Cup years. They both do not do much in 2023. Probably the same with the Rangers and 1994. No question, you cannot win a Cup every year but Islander fans are nothing if not patient and 1983 is a long wait. Young and upcoming teams and the fans can be more patient. Islanders are an older team so the clock is ticking. |

I’m glad to hear it because honestly I couldn’t tell.
Maybe the problem is Lou has brought success and the fans don’t know how to deal it. LOL
After so many years of 2 steps forward 6 steps back. The fan base reaches the ECF ( some how with gifts from competitors and Covid) and they won’t accept anything other than a cup or it’s not good enough.
That said, I do want to see another cup win but know it’s extremely hard to achieve. Rags fans waited 54 years to see another cup. Lou has built the team and signed the deals that are here. That said he gets credit for the success and he or whoever comes next has to deal with the contracts. That’s all under Lou and nobody ever said they weren’t. Team is aging and if need be it needs to be addressed. That said having an empty new arena you just built in the POs isn’t what most owners want. That said rebuilding in expensive to the bottom line.
Hey I don’t want to keep you. Don’t you have to get to sound check |

I think after watching Barry Trotz, it sunk in that coaches matter. Decades of rookie coaches, got the same failed results. I think Lou has done some good for this team. Where I think he failed was his inability to replace Tavares and his pts (Horvat is not that guy), leaving the isles still without a true first line. The PP is just a failure, anyway you slice it, yet they keep the same staff. I thought those “loyalty” days were over. Shoulda hired Rick Tocchet > Lame |
