They gave it to him in august 2017.

His best season at that point was 77 points. They through a 8 years, 8.5M contract at him (huge considering what the cap was at the time).

He then turned into that 100+ points unstoppable monster.

But I reealy doubt Edmonton ever offered Draisaitl.

Considering how obsessed Bergevin was in finding a #1 centre, he would have jumped on that.
