Sean think Pittsburgh and Crosby. That management has everything to keep him happy. When you have players like that you make every effort to keep them happy and on the team. I think Jeff Jackson will make the necessary changes to keep the team in play for the cup this year.

Ha ha ha dumpster fire rinse and repeat !! They can compete this year or the next few with the cal hell and it only gets worse as the German clown gets closer to needing a new contract !! Lol this team is t smart enough to trade him while his value is high under his current contract so they can bring in a goalie and 1 real defence man. But nope rinse and repeat and expect different outcome seems insane lol

I thought there was an unwritten rule that management has to please their stars at all costs.

A couple of things, As to your comment that this isn't McDavid's fault, of course it is! Not his entirely, of course, but he is complicit in this mess so far. The hiring of Knoblauch was hilarious! The guy hasn't won anywhere since junior.
The second thing is the Oilers' management's failure to remember history. Yeah, they traded the greatest player ever, but they also won a Cup without him. Forget trying to appease little Connor and build a winning team around him. Then he will gladly stay! So will Leon.

The difference between Pittsburgh, aside from having won Cups is that during their most successful years, the Penguins still were not ever discussed as a two player team. Malkin and Crosby were elite but from top to bottom there was a team with full buy-in to win. That has not been the case in Edmonton. Those Cup runs by the Penguins were littered with key injuries and those teams still overcame them.

it helped though that SC won the SC early in his career so staying was easier.

Trade McDavid, Trade Leon for picks and prospects. Blow it up and tank for high draft picks. Next window 2028-2032

Nobody stays forever. Instead of being terrified the Oilers should be preparing and planning for him leaving….as well as making the most of having him, while you have him. Leave it to the Oilers to mess this up. Like Connor says, cup or bust……he probably didn’t think the bust would happen by mid November.

I disagree.

The Oilers are doing the right thing. You never ever ever let generational player(s) go. That said you make a good point. Keep that option open because it may be out of their control.

Talk about a team and ownership that has gone completely DOWN THE TOLIET! Look at all the Number One draft picks this team has had and gotten NOTHING, NOTHING OUT OF THEM!! The Oilers would of been better trading those Number One's for players that are young and CAN WIN!!

The Eulers need to learn how to win Stanley Cups without 'generational' players.

Plenty of examples outside of Pittsburgh.

McDavid has a NMC and Draisaitl has a 10 team NTC. So they can easily diminish any good return especially with their cap hits.

Oilers fans, chin up. Don't let one month of hockey get in your heads. poop happens. your team has the talent and it's not going to get a lot better than this. LD and CM have proven they can dominate in the playoffs. stay the course. don't over react. If you think it's bad now imagine life without them...

It took Ovie a good while to win a cup but they stuck with him.... don't blow a team up over a month of hockey when you have 2 of the best talents in the league.

Well they should make their peace with it because 'making McDavid happy' isn't the way to win a Stanley Cup. Winning a Stanley Cup is the way to make McDavid happy and they have pretty much squandered their best chances of that. I thought this month was frustrating, but this last weekend is right off the frankin deep end. This team doesn't have a vision, doesn't have a goal, Paul frankin Coffey? Give me a break! I want to frank off for a while and just let hockey go and come back in 4 or 5 years and see if there's anything worth watching or not. These Oilers... 40 years of this has just worn me out. I dunno, maybe Knoblauch and Coffey will surprise and provide some answers where no one else has. I frankin doubt it though. 2 months from now it's going to be Calgary north with everyone begging to get out of town.

Most clubs would be terrified of McDavid leaving. Maybe it's an Oilers thing to be terrified in him leaving.

The difference is that Crosby and Malkin are both 10x better defensively than McDavid and Draisaitl. Considering how great Crosby's 200ft game is, and how dreadful Drsisaitl's is, it's not even close.
Draisaitl is one of the most immature pro players I've ever seen. He has the mentality of a midgetAAA player.

Penguins were a two player team for a few years during the end of Shero and Bylsma. Bylsma was even playing them together on the same line in his last postseason series against NYR in 2014. Letang is way underrated for how good he was. Far better than any dman in EDM. His injuries derailed his career accomplishments. If he remained healthy, he would have easily won the 2013 Norris and at least been a top 3 contender in 2016. Alas, he's played a single full season in his career (2011, same season Malkin and Crosby were both injured the entire year lol).
