He doesn't do a good job and there is zero need for that presence. - MJL
I understand and acknowledge Deslauriers offensive limitations, but I also value the other things he brings to the game for the 9 minutes he is out there. Maybe it's just like Torts said, this is a part of the game that has been lost or undervalued, but I still think is necessary. |

Laughton wouldnt stand for playing on the 4th line so Torts has no choice. - MBFlyerfan
So you think it makes perfect sense for Laughton to play only 10 or less minutes a game on the 4th line? You think that is good for the team and you think Laughton would be perfectly fine with it over a long stretch or an entire season? |

Thanks Bill for your Farm Report on nhl.com. I was especially happy to read the JR Avon is hitting his stride. Russ Cohen talks about Avon a lot and has stated he thought he has the potential to be one of the Flyers best prospects. Do you agree with his opinion? |

I think Laughton is a team first guy and he would 100% take on any role that was asked of him. He’s made that pretty clear during his time here has he not? Last guy with an ego on this team. |

I did not notice that. I don't believe that makes sense anyway, I think Cates should be the 3C. He has to develop and struggle through things just like the other kids on the team, it's just part of the process. I think Laughton on the 4th line with Hathaway and Deslauriers looked good for the most part, though I wonder how it would look with Hathaway-Peohling-Laughton as a 4th line? In the end, Laughton needs to play more than 10 minutes a night. - jd250
Cates gets to struggle while you say if Phrost doesn't play like an all-star he has no place on the team |

Laughton doesnt have the limits Deslauriers has, so to assume he would only play 10 or less minutes doesnt really hold up. |

I never said that about Frost ... show the post where I did .. I'll wait. Again, I did not like that Frost was sat out and thought he should be in the lineup. Just because I am not a fan of how Frost plays does not mean I don't want him to succeed. |

But if he is playing on the 4th line, that is just about all the ice time he is going to get. Laughton kills penalties, but so does Deslauriers. |

It's not just about ego though. Every pro athlete wants to play and build a market for themselves. I'm sure Laughton would like the best chance to get a extension or another contract when his current deal is up in a couple of seasons, and for good money. Needs to play and generate numbers for that. |

Deslauriers averages 9:33 a game at evens, 0 minutes killing penalties this season, and 8 seconds of PP time.
While Laughton averages 12:27 at evens, 58 seconds on the PP and 1:38 on the PK.

wasn't RP on the third line with bee and scott last game? Cates centered ND and hath. - Peter Richards
Yes. That was how I would set up the 4th line with Deslauriers eating popcorn.

You know who has impressed me so far? Washington. No Backstrom and a slow start from OV. 8-4-2. Shut out Vegas last night. - Hextall271
3-0 with NAK back in the lineup. |

I think Avon will play in the NHL eventually, but I see him more as a bottom six player. Sort of on an Eric Wellwood track but hopefully he avoids any major injuries.

Yup, I agree, they need time to reset, practice and then get right back out there. - jd250
Need to get that magical perspective from the press box. It works for coaches and players. |

Nice pair of roads wind against two good teams! In both games the Flyers weathered the storm early and settled things down and played good hockey. You got to give up there the coaches for emphasizing getting to the crease to score goals with the semi circle drill they did this week, the Flyers scored just about all their goals this weekend from in tight. Nice to see Frost get in the board also, that’s what he has to do to stay in the lineup!

What does he bring? Why do we want a player who when he is on the ice, the other team scores the majority of the goals? He has value. The only issue is that value is to the opposition.

Who cares what Laughton thinks. Yes, playing the young players more over veterans such as Laughton and Atkinson is good for the team. |

Kates, Pharabee and Phoerster should never be sitting out.
