Honestly if you took off your Marner goggles, you'd notice that he's not playing anywhere near as well as he has in other seasons. It's early and he's been notoriously a slow starter. In fact in his career his lowest PPG and only month where he's a negative is October. November is typically an improvement, but he improves as the year moves on - generally peaking in February. Maybe this extended slow start that the rest of us are observing means he'll peak in April when it would really matter.

Marner is forcing too many plays that aren't there, telegraphing more plays than normal and has been less defensively present - that's honestly observable. I'm not here saying we should trade him or anything, I'm just telling you want I see. It's been a trademark of Marner's career - when the offense part of his game struggles, he's impatient and tries to force it too much.

The line is also finding it's groove because while Knies is very talented, he's still a rookie and quite raw in his game I find. He turns the puck over quite a bit, so between him and Marner not being at his best, the line simply doesn't have the puck as much as we'd like.

Weird way of phrasing it.

Shouldn’t be written in a passive voice.

Be better, Bruins.

Toronto's xGF%...

When Bertuzzi is on: 63.1%
When Bertuzzi is off: 44.9%

He ranks 4th in relative xGF% to teammates out of 461 skaters with 150+ minutes.

As expected, Bertuzzi did not forget how to play hockey

- Santo_44

This is a ridiculous stat for the Leafs. The 4th line has been brutal, and the 3rd line had Kampf for a while but is now coming around so of course the team average would be lower. Bertuzzi has spent most of his time with the 1st or 2nd line.

That being said. I agree it looks like Bertuzzi can hockey and we need to be patient.

That D group is absolutely not good enough. You need to add a legit minute muncher - a legit top pair guy to that - and then we can work with that. Also if Im the Leafs Id consider bringing back Brodie on the cheap if it can be done.

I said this last year and people scoffed. We can easily keep Nylander. Sign him and take a bit of a hit next year. Domi, Bertuzzi, Klingberg out. Play whatever young guys are somewhat ready, as long as it does not hinder their develpoment. Could be Cowan, Minten, Steeves, Mccaan. . Save your cap space. Maybe sign a guy or 2 to 1 year deals for more than league minimum depending on what you have availabe.

This takes you to JT, Brodie, coming off the cap and you can make a decision with Marner (likely sign him). Now you hopefully have the space to revamp your defense and hopfully have one of our young goalies step up byt then.

The good news about re-signing Marner, is that there should be no raise in his CAP hit. (Should, being the most important word)

Yeah, it doesn’t mean that. He’s 7th in the league in points over the past two seasons and 16 games. If he has an off year, and there’s no reason on to assume he will, the increase would likely be reduced …. some.

He’ll be paid as one of the best players in the league.

Vastly overpaid on his last contract and only now earning it, is more what I mean.

This contract is still slightly more than what he should be making on the next.

would Hanifin want to play for another Canadian team?
and what type of contract is he looking for? 6x6.5? or more.
