Walker keeps playing his way into an extension
Cup or bust! - Bob Habib
I don’t know about an extension, but I think he’s been extremely solid. There’s a guy who if he keeps up that pace becomes one hell of a trade chip.

Has TK's creativity been stifled? How about Tippet's? Has Frost not made a ton of really slick passes in the ozone in recent games? From what I see, the creativity is not in chains. The only thing holding the Flyers back in creativity is not the coach, but the lack of elite talent in the lineup. - jd250
I agree. He’s preached that they can’t be scared of mistakes in almost all of his presser’s. Thy do have some pretty skilled guys, none that would qualify as elite but skilled none the less. I’m enjoying watching them this year. They have been in position to win or get points in all but 2 or 3 games all year.

In the process of building a playoff bubble team. Trying to win, not rebuild. They owe that to the players in the room. Have to set a standard of winning. - MJL
You disappointed me today. Nothing negative about the win over the defending SC champs?? I personally enjoyed the game....great seeing Foerster put one in, great to see the PP goals, Sanheim with another great game, Hart was excellent, etc. Nice win!

I’d love for the flyers to get another top 5 pick.
I’m not seeing that scenario this year unless Briere trades who he can for a decent return.
Then by default they may lose more games because they don’t have a deep roster.
If that helps the team build a perennial contender then great.
In the meantime I’m happy for the players that they are finding some success. Some of the young guys may be better for it in the long run.
Brink should be in tomorrow. I don’t care if the flyers won today. Brink is better than a handful of players.
Players don’t improve sitting multiple stretches of games. - bird_dog_pa
I hear you on all of this. I'm enjoying the wins while I can as I'm sure there will be rough stretches. You said it best...we don't have a deep roster. I want Brink in too but Torts might not change things till we lose. I'm not a Torts hater but his scratch policy ticks me off.

Should be obvious, last 2 games ND is out of his league, if Torts wants to ice the best team, ND is not on it. |

I hear you but not sure what it will take to scratch ND. I like ND and I do like a good hockey fight, but he should only playing on occasion. There is no need for ND against teams that don't have fighters.

Agreed on all points. Hart didn’t get a star but he really held them in in the 3rd. |

Yeah... didn't have a point today after 4 in the previous three games. Anyone else blocks four shots on a quiet day offensively and he's scratch proof for Torts. Frost? "Need more offense." |

That's exactly it. A lot of individual plays and efforts. Tortorella's style does not create offensive opportunity, odd man rushes or transition offense. It doesn't create speed. Tortorella has always been able to coach playoff teams. Has only taken one team past the 2nd round of the playoffs in his past 17 coaching seasons. If you want to make the playoffs, he's your guy. If you want to develop young players and build a legit cup contender. He's the wrong guy.

Poehling is the same age is Tippet, Frost and Cates BTW! I'll answer this question in April, not after 17 games. - jd250
Hysterical, just a couple of hours ago, you were willing to post that all the young players were progressing well. Now you say you can't answer it after 17 games. Wonder why?

The sarcasm of my post went over your head. I agree, both Sanheim and Hart were really good. Couturier was outstanding.

Lol I got the sarcasm but just figured you'd bring up something like how when ND was on the ice, LV had better chances or that we couldn't score on a 5 minute PP. Sorry, I left out Coots, and he was indeed money today. I admit I was skeptical about his comeback, but happy to say I was wrong. I've been a Coots fan since he started but the back injury/surgery definitely had me apprehensive about a full recovery. I'm loving seeing Sanheim's play this season.

Cutter Gauthier had a nice game against UConn on Friday night, got the game tying goal in the 3rd and then the OT winner, as BC won 5-4. Cutter with 2G and an assist! |

The younger players are progressing, but where they will end up I have no idea. We will see how the season plays out. Tippet has 4 goals in 4 games, so I would say his season is going quite well. York is playing a tough position on the first pairing, it's going to take time to see what he ends up being. Same with Foerster and all the rest. But as a whole, they are progressing and the team is progressing. Big difference between last year when in the first 18 games the Flyers were 7-7-1 and the only reason was Hart stood on his head, and this season after they wipe Columbus tomorrow night the Flyers will be 10-7-1, and though Hart has played just as great this year, it's much more of a team this year. |

I thought Frost had a rough start to the game today with 3 bad turnovers, but the Flyers as a whole did not start well. As the game progressed and the Flyers got their footing, I thought Frost played well and generated a ton of chances. He is a nifty passer in the ozone, so much so that sometimes his linemates don't look ready to receive the puck when he sends it their way. Frost has got very good vision and offensive instincts. |

Like I said, I don't want to be Buffalo, or Edmonton ... or Toronto, teams that tanked for great players but to do so created a culture of losing that they still can't get away from. When are you going to learn, if you inject super star players into a culture of losing, they will eventually accept losing also. No, for me, I want to root for a team that wants to win and doesn't accept losing. That is what Torts has brought to the Flyers, and in the nick of time. Whether you like to hear this or not, Hextall brought the culture of losing to the Flyers and only now are we starting to see change, all thanks to Torts! |

Uh oh! Don't besmirch the name of Hexy the Great! He can do no wrong. He had the best vision for the Flyers ever but the dinosaurs didn't like him so he could not fulfill his plan. We easily would've won a cup by now if Hexy was still here.
