I don't think the gameplan or even the play designs were Dorsey's problem. It was more the in-game decisions (when to call this play or that one) that was dysfunctional. Dorsey seemed to gravitate to 3 or 4 plays that he was comfortable with when things weren't going well. We won't really know whether Joe Brady is any better at that until the Dallas game at the earliest. The one concern is that both Diggs and Davis were non-factors. A lot of that could simply be that the Jets are really good at taking away your best player but he needs to get them back to form too, and not because they're afraid Diggs will throw a fit either. - buffalofan19
Being excessively predictable is a massive dorsey problem. because then, you don't do jack (frank)ing poop, like the powerplay, until your best player plays hero. (frank) dorsey.

Looked like Brady and the team were working through the playbook in the first half yesterday to see what, if anything, they didn't like.
Going to be a fun game this coming Sunday. |

One could argue that the timing of Dorsey's firing was 15 weeks too late, but it's something to think about when they had a trial run vs the Jets before the schedule got really (frank)ing intense.

It was successful because Dahlin was a superhero and teams weren't entirely sure Tage was real yet.
When teams figured those two things out, the power play went into the poopter because it's a ridiculously basic structure with mostly stationary player movement. - kingcong39
That's it right there, it's nice seeing Benson out there because he constantly moving his feet, trying to be a option out there. |

This is where GMKA needs to loosen the purse strings and make a real move.

“I want our players to be fearless and that’s how we’re going to run the organization, too,” Adams said in April. “Donny and myself, we are going to be fearless and we’re going to trust and believe in our players. When we think they’re ready and in spots to succeed we’re going to help them. For me looking at Devon, I see a special person, I see a special work ethic, a special talent”
There will be no trades,

What exactly is the motivation for the Oilers to do this.

The difference between the two is that the Bills had the plays in the playbook. We saw that last night. There's no way Joe Brady implemented them in 4-plus days. He just wasn't afraid to call them, likely because he had nothing to lose. What really makes a coordinator good is how much he's willing to get out of his comfort zone. Dorsey apparently wasn't.

I think it would take more than that package but I also don't think they can win with nearly $30m aav between him and mcdavid. That's where they're headed if they don't move him. |

You could...but the question is how long will it last? Fearlessness tends to go away in the name of job preservation eventually. |

Touche, allowing that preservationist mindset to settle in is on the GM/owner. It's their job to get the best out the staff.
Adams parked the bus in 2020 and is living the dream:

Leon leaving via free agency after next season...? - kingcong39
If he is indeed traded, this is the sole reason why. I think they just pull a Leafs and stack two major contracts. Losing Leon would be abysmal.

There's merit to that idea, if you don't have the right complimentary parts. and cough coaching cough. I'd personally bet against them losing Leon though. |

Sean brought up after he fired Dorsey, I think he mentioned there were two factors and one of them can be summed up with an "it" factor. And Dorsey didn't have any of it. Dorsey had the intelligence to do it, but not the ability to be good at it.
Sorry if I bungled the quote.
