I would have been on board 2 years ago...not anymore.
He certainly has the intangibles, but produces like Okie last year except for the -28.
That ship has sailed, especially for $4m...after he properly earned $1m last 2 seasons.

We are sleep training ours now, but at 6 weeks old, it's a work in progress.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Exceeding expectations

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was the third goalie on the depth chart at the start of the season. Just over a month into the season, Luukkonen has been Buffalo’s best goalie. The Sabres are 4-3 in his seven starts and he has a .911 save percentage and a 2.80 goals-against average. He’s also 10th in the NHL in high-danger save percentage among goalies who have played at least five games, according to Natural Stat Trick. Even though he was third in the rotation to start the season, Luukkonen has made the most of every opportunity.

Devon Levi: Needs improvement

This one is tricky. Devon Levi is right on track if you’re grading his performance in the context of this being his first NHL season as a 21-year-old. But given that he was the Sabres’ opening-night starter, Levi needs improvement if he’s going to be the team’s No. 1 goalie at some point this season. He has an .879 save percentage and a 3.66 goals-against average in eight starts. Those numbers aren’t good enough. His save percentage on high-danger chances is 62nd in the NHL, according to Natural Stat Trick. He had outstanding games in wins against the Minnesota Wild and Tampa Bay Lightning, but his save percentage has been below .900 in six of his eight starts. This hasn’t been a terrible start for a 21-year-old goalie, but it’s below the expectations the Sabres placed on him to start the season.

Eric Comrie: Incomplete

Eric Comrie missed a few weeks with a groin injury but otherwise has been steady for the Sabres in his four starts. But it’s tough to form too many conclusions off of four starts, one of which Comrie left early with an injury. He’s the most experienced goalie of the three on Buffalo’s roster, so he will keep getting starts now that he’s healthy again."

Tage Thompson: Meeting expectations

Tage Thompson got off to a slow start but kicked his game into gear prior to injuring his wrist against the Bruins. He’ll be out another few weeks at least, but Thompson is still meeting expectations with how he’s played this season. He’s not on a 50-goal pace like he was this time a year ago, but he’s still producing offense and was showing a ton of growth in his defensive game prior to his injury with 11 takeaways and just one giveaway. He has six goals and six assists in 16 games, so there’s room for improvement when he returns. But Thompson had a solid start to the season.

Dylan Cozens: Needs improvement

Dylan Cozens has been playing the last few games with a full face shield after breaking his nose and getting a gnarly black eye in an ill-advised fight with Garnet Hathaway. Cozens admitted he needs to pick his spots better and protect himself. Fighting aside, though, this season has been a struggle for Cozens. We noted last week that he has played at least 10 minutes with nine different linemates. That lack of a permanent role has negatively impacted his numbers, as he has just nine points in 17 games. More glaring, though, is that he has only four takeaways and 14 giveaways this season. That trend needs to be reversed in a hurry.

Alex Tuch: Needs improvement

Alex Tuch is a tricky case because he fought through an injury in the preseason and had a slow start to the season as a result. He then missed more time with an upper-body injury just as he was getting going again. He still has 11 points in 16 games, which isn’t bad production. He falls into the needs improvement category only because injuries have made it difficult for him to find consistency. He’s mostly met expectations when healthy, especially when you consider he has 14 takeaways to just five giveaways.

Jeff Skinner: Meeting expectations

Jeff Skinner is tied for the Sabres’ lead in goals and is tied for third on the team with 14 points. He’s scoring the way a $9 million player should score. The Sabres are also allowing 55 percent of the high-danger chances when he’s on the ice at five-on-five. His defense is inconsistent, but his scoring is excellent.

JJ Peterka: Exceeding expectations

JJ Peterka has become one of Buffalo’s best offensive play drivers this season, and that’s been a welcome sight for a team struggling to find its offensive game. He’s tied for the team lead in goals (8) and second on the team in points (15). Even while bouncing between different linemates, Peterka has been a consistent source of offense. His competitiveness and willingness to play away from the puck has stood out, too.

Jordan Greenway: Meeting expectations

Jordan Greenway hasn’t been a major point producer for the Sabres with six points in 19 games. But he’s living up to his reputation as a top defensive player. He’s been outstanding on the penalty kill. When Greenway is on the ice at five-on-five, the Sabres have just under 55 percent of the high-danger chances. That’s the best number of any Sabre who has played every game.

Kyle Okposo: Needs improvement

Kyle Okposo is no longer at the stage of his career in which he can be counted on as a consistent offensive threat. He has only three assists and zero goals this season. Last season, Okposo helped anchor one of the best defensive lines in hockey, but this season, that line hasn’t been nearly as strong in that area.

Peyton Krebs: Needs improvement

Peyton Krebs doesn’t play an offensive role on the Sabres, but he has just nine shots on goal, zero goals and one assist in 17 games this season. It might be worthwhile to give Krebs a chance to play with more offensive players, either as a center or a wing. There’s no room for him in the top six, but he could find a role on the third line while the Sabres deal with injuries. He’s had more jump in his game in the last week but was scratched against the Washington Capitals. Krebs needs improvement, but the Sabres also need to give him a more consistent and clearly defined role.

Victor Olofsson: Needs improvement

Victor Olofsson scored two late goals in a 5-2 loss against the Bruins and also had a pair of assists against Washington. His production has been sporadic. That’s not entirely his fault, as he’s been scratched from the lineup repeatedly. When he’s gotten his chances, he’s played a better all-around game than he did a season ago. The Sabres have 52 percent of the shot attempts and 52 percent of the expected goals when he’s on the ice at five-on-five. But he’s not scoring like he did last season, and that’s his best trait.

Casey Mittelstadt: Exceeding expectations

Casey Mittelstadt has been the Sabres’ most consistent forward at five-on-five this season. He leads the team in even-strength points going back to Feb. 1 of last season. He’s second on the team in points in all situations during that span. He’s become a fixture in the top six and has proven what he can do when surrounded by like-minded offensive wingers. Not only that, Mittelstadt has become one of the team’s most competitive players in puck battles. His upcoming contract negotiation will be an interesting one for the Sabres.

Tyson Jost: Meeting expectations

Tyson Jost is another player who hasn’t gotten a chance to find a rhythm this season because he’s been in and out of the lineup. It’s tough to say he needs to improve when he’s playing a limited role. Like everyone in the bottom six, though, he could be better. He has just one goal and two assists in 14 games. The Sabres have just 43 percent of shot attempts and 47 percent of the expected goals when Jost is on the ice at five-on-five this season.

Zemgus Girgensons: Needs improvement

Zemgus Girgensons has two goals, but he’s also minus-2 through 19 games. The Sabres are allowing 56 percent of the shot attempts when Girgensons is on the ice at five-on-five, the worst mark of any Sabres forward who has played every game.

Zach Benson: Exceeding expectations

Zach Benson has four assists and a beauty of a goal in nine games played. When he was drafted, the Sabres didn’t necessarily expect Benson to crack the final roster let alone be such an impactful player at 18 years old. The Sabres also have 62 percent of the high-danger chances when he’s on the ice at five-on-five. His offensive game is exciting, but Benson’s ability to play with strong detail and habits all over the ice is what could keep him around all season.

Fix the 3rd line before the 4th, and resolve 2nd.
Stabilize the D
Go get a G who can be 1A and slide to 1B over the next couple years.

Fix the 3rd line before the 4th, and resolve 2nd.
Stabilize the D
Go get a G who can be 1A and slide to 1B over the next couple years.

Agreed. They've been propelled to more minutes cause of injury. That third line was our best line to start the year. Fixing it in the meantime would go a long way.

Krebs, Girgs for Perry improves the 4th line. Gets underperforming Girgs and his sloppy play and terrible possession metrics off the team.

They need a goalie like you said but Imo UPL should be getting 41+ Starts. Hes been great and the metrics support him. Comrie injuries and Levi's play arent helping us.

I can understand trying to fit Krebs in somewhere. But obviously he needs certain players he can fit with. The kid is a Passer, he never even scored 20 goals in juniors, but he could dish the puck. There was a few games last year he got to play with Tuch. Try him with Cozens at LW and Tuch at RW and see what happens. If it doesn't work than trade his A$$ before he worth No more than Olofsson.
