He will most likely never have a season like this again if he keeps up this pace. (yes i know its not done), so chances are he hovers around 80- 90pts mark for next couple of seasons.
I wouldn't want to pay him 12m for that.
Heck, even at 100pts the next couple of seasons, i wouldnt want the leafs to pay him 12m. - Fakepartofme
Willy gets around $10.5 if he signs for term. He just might agree to a one year deal to get a bigger payday betting on himself and knowing JT's deal is off the books the following season.

That’s not happening under any circumstances
Willys getting paid. This year.
He truly has played himself out of Toronto. Good on him.
Good luck on Anaheim buddy! |

You've been eating alot of crow lately with your takes on Willy. Might just be possible that you will continue to do so.

Willy is so good that you know the only way Willy won’t be a leaf is admitting he is a beast.
This has been hilarious to follow over the years.
Keep it up. |

How so?
I’ve never said anything negative about him all year. All I’ve said was that he’s playing himself out of Toronto.

Let’s see how he plays in March, and not playing for a new contract.
I could totally see you paying him based off 16 games tho. |

The first 4 years of his current contract he didn’t live up to expectations.. the last couple years he surpassed them.
This whole “pay players what they’re going to be worth, not what they’re worth today” is a bad way of doing business.
If the Leafs were to pay Willy based on his last 16 games, then he’s worth 10M. If they pay him based on what he’s shown over his career, then he’s worth 9.
That’s 1.5M raise, you’re still getting a one-way winger, who still make bad defensive plays. He’s good with his stick, but not positionally. He’s always looking for that spring pass. - Arctic_AARDVARK
He’s UFA now, he’ll get offered $10 minimum by someone. He’s also Sweden’s most popular player nowadays.
Besides you pay a guy for what they bring to table now, not 6 years ago.
Year one involved a sit out so that season was meh expectedly
Year 2 he was on a 78P pace for a full season
Year 3 a 68P pace
Year 4 a 81P pace
Year 5 a 87P pace
Year 6 currently a 130P pace
So other than the first season where he sat a lot of it out his weakest season points wise was still damn near 70P, and no, $7.5 mill for a guy like that is not overpaying at all. |

If he landed an 8 year deal $12 mill would only be about a tenth of the cap by the time it’s done. That needs to be something considered as well, his agent certainly will be that’s for damn sure.
If he sticks to his $10 mill desire the leafs need to sign him immediately. - Dozzer
I just dont see how this 17 games or so increases his value that much.
If hes willing to sign at 10m per, then do it even if its only for 4-5 years. |

I thought about that, just dont see him signing a 1 year deal.....unless its quickly followed by a big extension
But thats a risk for willie |

It’s because he’s UFA now, if the leafs don’t pay it another team will. |

Nylander has outperformed his contract. Of note - he scored 40 goals last season, including 5 game winning goals . With Nylander's OT goal today, he is now tied for the all-time lead in Leaf OT winning goals (4) with Sundin. Leafs should re-sign this guy, and I am confident they will.

Jays open to trading manoah. - Fakepartofme
I hope they don't. I think the Jays would be foolish to trade him.
There's video of him working his ass off in the gym, so he knows full well why he failed this past season.
And he looks noticeably trimmer, too.
Coming into next season, as of right now, he'd be the #5 starter. Teams could do a lot worse with their #5. |

I agree, the Jays should concentrate on getting some reliable bats, like the 2nd baseman they let get away to the Rangers. Spend some (frank)en money already. |

What seems high now won’t in 8 years with the cap back to jumping around $5 mill each year.
Also, as an UFA I’m willing to bet someone offers it to him. |

Yeah me too, even if the president and GM didn’t want to for some dumb reason I could see ownership stepping in and telling them to get him resigned. |

Fairly confident, he likes his situation in Toronto. Many here thought there was no way Matthews would re-sign with the Leafs. I'm confident he will be a Leaf next season.

I’m genuinely curious as to how it plays out. My curiousity is will he let how his dad handled his career, playing for 8 different NHL teams and multiple teams in other leagues. What if that makes Nylander not care so much and choose to sign elsewhere, I mean this guy did sit out before, I love his game but I also won’t be shocked if he simply chooses the best financial decision available to him either.
As far as I care tho is so long he continues to where his current jersey I’ll be 100% cheering him on |

It doesn’t increase his value that much. That’s why he’s in no hurry to sign right now. If he continues to have a great season he’s going to make big dollars. We’ve already moved past the “$10 is an overpay” threshold. |
