He’s UFA now, he’ll get offered $10 minimum by someone. He’s also Sweden’s most popular player nowadays.

Besides you pay a guy for what they bring to table now, not 6 years ago.

Year one involved a sit out so that season was meh expectedly

Year 2 he was on a 78P pace for a full season
Year 3 a 68P pace
Year 4 a 81P pace
Year 5 a 87P pace
Year 6 currently a 130P pace

So other than the first season where he sat a lot of it out his weakest season points wise was still damn near 70P, and no, $7.5 mill for a guy like that is not overpaying at all.

No point Bruce.

I agree, the Jays should concentrate on getting some reliable bats, like the 2nd baseman they let get away to the Rangers. Spend some (frank)en money already.
- winsix

Getting a bat should've been the main focus at the deadline, too. Maybe he learned his lesson and will actually do it now.

The good news is, despite everything, signing a big name guy in the off-season is something they've done very well over the last few years.

So Ohtani, Bellinger, a trade for Soto.

But more than likely, we'll see the Jays sign one or two of these guys- Rhys Hoskins, Votto, Justin Turner, Nick Senzel, Michael A. Taylor, Jorge Soler, or Brandon Woodruff.

Hell, maybe they even see about Teo and/or Lourdes.

I hope they don't. I think the Jays would be foolish to trade him.

There's video of him working his ass off in the gym, so he knows full well why he failed this past season.

And he looks noticeably trimmer, too.

Coming into next season, as of right now, he'd be the #5 starter. Teams could do a lot worse with their #5.

St L wants him

And they have O Neill 🇨🇦 and Carlson

Willy on a heater. Definitely gave his Swedish fans a lot to cheer about.

Good work Willy.

All we need now is Zadorov.

Ohtani is a real longshot IMO. Bellinger is a strong possibility. Looks like the Jays are moving on from Chapman. Great glove but not enough at the plate.

I think Manoah can get back to what he was, so I hope the Jays keep him.

Longshot for sure, but the Jays do fill a few of the boxes that he's apparently looking for in a team. And they were apparently one of the final teams in on him when he was first coming over from Japan. So hopefully that turns out to be enough for it to happen.

Honestly, I don't blame a lot of the Jays hitters for last season. They got the worst hitting coach in Baseball. (frank)ing idiot had Varsho work through 3 different batting stances during the season. That's insane.

I hope we do not give up a 1st round pick to sign Bellinger. Would rather sign a bat a tier below him and keep the pick.

I'm thinking that the Leafs really do need to upgrade the defense with two players coming into the fold. Zadorov and Tanev seems to be what the Leafs do need. A lefty and a righty. Going the other way should be Brodie and Klingberg, plus their choice of a top Marlie, maybe Abruzzese or Steeves. The Flames can just allow the contracts to cancel out and pick up a possible 3rd or 4th liner to bring in some depth. Both Brodie and Klingberg could be flipped by the trade deadline, once they decide it's time for a rebuild. A healthy Tanev could be used as a Right shot partner for Rielly and once Timmins gets back into the lineup, you can put either Zadorov or McCabe on the third pairing with Timmins. McCabe and Zadorov are interchangeable parts moving from pairing 2 and 3 or could also be used together on the 2nd pairing. Gio is interchangeable with any bottom pair player if you want to give Timmins a look at 2RD. It's time for the Leafs to get their playoff roster put together and not do what they did a year ago and have half their roster turned over at the trade deadline.

You know I agree with you on the hitting coach. He played three seasons in the minors and three in the independent league and was a below average hitter. How this guy is a major league hitting coach is beyond belief, especially when you have Don (frank)ing Mattingly on your bench. Not sure how this guy was not fired into the sun after the season.

That’s not happening under any circumstances

Willys getting paid. This year.

He truly has played himself out of Toronto. Good on him.

Good luck on Anaheim buddy!

- Arctic_AARDVARK

He'll be a Leaf. It will be Marner who goes, of the two imo, but only if its another disappointing playoff. If it's a good playoff they will muddle through next season until JT's big ticket comes off.

Hanifin is the better target and use of assets imo if you can sign him. 😉

Hanifin more expensive with probably far less of a chance of resigning.

More expensive because he's a better player.

He was in talks to re sign in Calgary, so he's not against playing in Canada.

He's the guy they should target.

I read the pick is after the 2nd round, not a 1st. And he checks a few boxes on what the Jays need.

Hanifin not a fit cap wise, unless one of Brodie or Klingberg is going the other way. Not sure if a rental LHD is worth giving up a significant asset. Unless Treliving can fish in Conroy the way Fletcher did Riesbrough, I can't see this happening.

It's been just as rumoured that he won't resign in Calgary. Given that he hasn't, it's probably not difficult to figure out which rumour is true.

They will probably want something like Minten + 1st for Hanifin, if you think that's worth 20 games for him to jog on I'm thinking I don't agree.

I Like Hanifin, but he's getting Rielly money. Almost impossible to fit him under the cap and keep Willy. Leafs have to trade for bargain basement and hope that it's enough to win a few playoff rounds.

Yeah he could be worth even a 1st but you are right it is not. It is 2nd and 5th highest pick and $1 million in bonus pool money.

I'd make that deal if he indicates that he would sign here. As for the $ this year, the writing is on the wall that Klingberg is about to take an extended vacation on an island with Messrs Robidas, Lupul, Muzzin, and Horton.

And there’s the Willy we all know.

Galaxy braining out there looking for a spring pass, totally loses his man and the puck winds up behind Woll.

I know this stuff doesn’t bother you guys much, but you also don’t understand the finer points of the game.

This is why Marner is worth 13 M

And Willy is worth around 8 M

Brad understands this. That’s why Willy still hasn’t be re-signed, and probably never will be in Toronto.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

You’re insight on this stuff is full stop idiotic
