I was just commenting to my wife that it's been a staple under Keefe - but it extends back to Babcock, too.

I'd love to know the answer. Is it possibly that they're just too reserved so they don't get amped up enough? Like a guy like Tavares isn't a "LET'S F'N GO!" type of guy . . .

But it would be because they are playing the "puncher's chance" style. You have Matthews, a red hot Nylander, Marner and Tavares - so what? Every one of our shots is equivalent to 5 of theirs? Minnesota is crushing them this game so far - now the Leafs are starting to look a little more awake, but the point remains: Why are we so poor in the opening 10 minutes of most games?

Leafs fans everywhere complain he is purposely raising the $ amount on his next contract.

But it would be because they are playing the "puncher's chance" style. You have Matthews, a red hot Nylander, Marner and Tavares - so what? Every one of our shots is equivalent to 5 of theirs? Minnesota is crushing them this game so far - now the Leafs are starting to look a little more awake, but the point remains: Why are we so poor in the opening 10 minutes of most games?

Fair enough. I see it as this team has always been built from a run and gun perspective, that's going to happen when a team is built top heavy. Out score your problems. Seems to be a byproduct of the cap era, when teams have ultra talented offensive players who are going to suck up mega chunks of cap, just embrace it.

Your stars are going to set the tone, and our high end guys seem to routinely need a bit of a wake up call.

Seems to balance when they do get that call. Where that style of team generally sinks or swims in the big picture is on the back end, and we all know that's a big problem here.

Yeah and I’ve been thinking about going back to college. I still have years of eligibility left. Lace them back up, walk onto the team, sign with an NHL team, inflate my first year stats, sign a long term deal and retire to Robidas Island.
