I would not mind trying this for a few games ... but Torts has a soft spot for a throwback player like Nick, so I can't see it happening unless Nick gets hurt. - jd250
The players like him to, thats why he was player of the game last night. Might not be good for the locker room benching him

Yea, you badly missed the point. Which was that Columbus had chances and couldn't finish and that the coach is stupid for scratching Laine. - MJL

Come on boys, this week kicks off the holiday season. Happy thanksgiving. Canāt we all get along? The constant bickering is nauseating, getting real old. It doesnāt always have to be a johnson measuring contest, on who knows what or I told you so about this player becoming whatever. The team is winning as of right now and is fun to watch. Give Torts credit for that. Whether he is the coach to win the whole thing, time will tell. Also donāt approve the way heās handling the Frost situation, but Iām not ready to tar and feather him, for his complete body of work to this point. Letās try to enjoy some entertaining and winning hockey while itās in front of us. We all know that could change quickly. One again Happy Thanksgiving and letās go Flyers. |

I finally get you?
That's just your latest nonsense.
Farabee and Sanheim have been playing well all season.
I'll just repost what Feanor said the other day in response to your post.
https://www.hockeybuzz.co...p?thread_id=185723&page=8
"I still don't see Farabee as a top 6 forward, He has improved over last season, but at this point I think he is what he is, good player, probably best suited for the 3rd line role."
-jd250
"Farabee leads the team with 12 ES points. Sanheim is second with 11, tied with Tippett.
Your are so bad at evaluating NHL players, it's comical"
-Feanor - MJL
Why are you digging up old posts to attack someone....give it a rest man,

Sorry, I don't think you are close on this one. Again, just a speculation, but I think Torts looks at Frost's game and thinks to himself, yeah, this kid has talent, vision and skill, but will his game translate to the playoffs where the intensity is ratcheted up 100% and the space on the ice is limited? I don' the answer because, alas, Frost has not played an NHL playoff game, but I can see this being a factor. Not saying it is, just saying I can see that it might be. - jd250
that is some flawed ass logic there my man |

What makes it particularly strange is that Frost has the second best ES GF% on the team. So it's not like he's made a bunch of mistakes that ended up with the Flyers conceding goals. If he had, then I could see a coach like Torts getting frustrated with him.
The forwards who are conceding the most goals against per minute so far are Atkinson, Couturier, Tippett and Cates. The forwards with the worst ES GF% are Deslauriers, Hathaway, Cates and Atkinson - who are all immune from a benching.
https://www.naturalstattr...ines=single&draftteam=ALL - Feanor I have to agree that it's strange cause Frost's numbers would indicate that he is playing fine when he is playing. His offensive numbers need to improve, but he needs to play to make that happen. He has more hits than most of the forwards and his plus/minus is just fine compared to the others that you mentioned. Torts must just think that he doesn't give the effort. I dunno, but it is confusing.

Poehling is a heavy player, and Yes, his game will translate to the playoffs. Torts like's heavy players, lets face it. Look at the transformation with Sanheim, he has gone from soft to heavy in 1 off-season! Again, Torts was the catalyst. - jd250
they wanted to trade sanheim. very badly. Catalyst my ass
pohig is a borderline nhl player. Hopefully he gets extended soon for 2 years. |

His game will translate to the playoffs lol he was fighting for an NHL job. |

You are a complete buffoon that does not know how to read. My post was speculation of what Torts might think based on the things he has said he values, for example stick on puck. I personally think Poehling's game will translate to the NHL and yes, he plays a heavy game. Frost does not play a heavy game. Does this mean Frost's game will not translate to an NHL PLAYOFF game? I don't know, but I think there is a chance it won't. You and Feanor can take a long walk, hand in hand, off a short pier. - jd250
do you win playoff games by soring more goals than the opposing team? |

No, you win by playing heavy! |

Sure, as Columbus matches the Flyers in 5 on 5 play, shot generation and chance generation yet can't finish. The coach sits the best goal scorer on the team while the Flyers win the game because they finished.
Danyko is a dinosaur. Let me know when he coaches or GM's a team to contention. - MJL
well can the same be said about you as well cliff? shocked you never went to work with your dad while he was employed at the nhl level. |
|
|

Yes, because he's still going to scratch other players such as Brink. Still going to favor other players even when they're playing worse than the players he is scratching. Still keeping Deslauriers in the lineup while scratching young players. Will still keep overplaying players like Poehling. Just like he did last year with McEwen, etc. - MJL
if they flyers are rebuilding isnt Poehlig the type you want to give extended minutes too as a younger former 1st rd pick?
Just some food for thought cliff. |

I actually didnāt and donāt mind that signing at all. You just didnāt figure it would be at the expense of our first round picks lol. Maybe RP is a backfill to Laughton if we trade him, bit of a utility player |

either did I as it was a 1 year deal with zero cap implications.
I do not see him as a laughton replacement at all. He just doesn't have the offense and his D is average nothing to get all excited about. Plus they aint trading laughton we all know that.
Correct about him staying in and Frost out. Though that wasn't what I was saying. Both should be in. |

I watched Danyko also and he did send nothing but praise to Torts and he said something else that I thought was insightful, "You don't play for Torts if you do not come ready to play hard every shift of every game". What could better for a young, developing player? - jd250

I donāt really see the Frost situation as a Torts issue as much as a Briere/Jones created problem. If you want Tortorella to eat his vegetables (young players with skill) donāt keep putting candy (Poehling, ND, Hathaway, Staal) on his plate. |

Using Torts baffling criteria, the player that needs to sit and get a reset is Cates. He got caved in last night on both sides of the puck.
Hopefully they see the light on him and move him back to wing at some point.

What Iāve learned today on hereā¦the Flyers winning is setting this team back yearsā¦.a horrible archaic coach just led us to 5 straight wins. Super star Morgan Frost getting benched is a hill some are willing to die on. Fancy stats show we didnāt deserve to win last night against a really bad team. Apparently the coach in Columbus is just as dumb as Torts because he scratched Patrick Laine
Itās nice to see the team compete every night and have a chance to win. Itās nice to see some of the young guys producing and growing (team success actually helping with that). After the horrid product Iāve been subjected to in the past few years, this is refreshing. |

I'm referring to the part where you said that you don't know if Frost's game will translate to the playoffs because he has never played a playoff game in the NHL. You posted that. Do I need to link to it?
Then you posted that Poehling's will yet he has never played a playoff game. You posted that. Do I need to link to it?
You don't see the contradiction there? You make a fool of yourself every single day.
Hits/60
Frost 2.85
Poehling 2.58
Goals against/60
Frost 1.58 (Best on the team)
Poehling 1.9
CA/60 shot prevention. (Higher is worst)
Frost 56.21
Poehling 71
Expected goals against/60 (Shot quality)
Frost 2.27
Poehling 2.53
Goals for %
Frost 70%
Poehling 37.50% - MJL
The kind of people who would value Poehling over Frost won't understand or even care about measures of performance. They only care about adjectives like "heavy" and some dream where Ryan Poehling will make a difference in some hypothetical PO series. Don't even bother. I'm sure the Flyers crack numbers crew has long given up feeding any info to Torts. |
