They are considerably worse defensive team than the year prior. None of the additions he had made helped in that area - ClaudeFather
Bertuzzi was awful early on but seems to have found a spot playing with Nylander (even I could look good with that guy). Domi on the 3rd line has been just average. Klinberg and as you pointed out, Reeves have been signings that are not looking good. I’m not sure what they are yet. The big reason they have looked ok is because Nylander has taken another step…he may be the best forward in the NHL…(with his play so far) |

Tough outlook for that team currently. 7th or 8th season with the core 4, nothing to show for it, team looks to be the worst it’s been in years, minimal assets to make a change, and you now have a cap anchor in Klingberg where you’d have to give up more to get rid of. Not a great spot for a team that’s essentially in cup or bust mode |

Isle/Rangers/Isle, by the close of Saturday, we will know a little more about these Flyers. - wcorvette
Ranger game will be interesting. Flyers so far have beaten two of the better teams in Vegas and Carolina…I still think they are and will be a .500 team. They will have a usual swoon,I’m just hoping it doesn’t last 10 games again. |

100%. I’m enjoying the team now but this will be a good test to see how we measure up. Especially excited for the rangers game |

Has Atkinson been unlucky, or is he playing zero defense this season? The amount of goals going in the Flyers net with him on the ice is extremely high, but it is only 18 games in to the season. - Feanor
Mostly unlucky but he's also never been that great defensively to begin with.
The stamp of approval he gets from Torts has probably got more to do with off-ice/personal relationship than him being a 200-foot player. |

The Islanders have been struggling and aren't very good offensively. I don't see the Isles as a superior team to the Flyers at this point. - MJL
agree, just their style always gives the Flyers fits, I think it is the elite goal tending where a team, like the Flyers can struggle. Really shows, they MM and Cutter to be real, they need the high end closers, besides TK.

But he provides that roll. Yes he does a better job and is a better player, but the premis is those guys aren’t needed or warranted. My view is that is BS. If I’m wrong why do most if not all teams have those guys? And Further…simply ask the players…current or former. - landros 2
where we disagree I guess is maroon and ND are nowhere near the same player. Maroon is a legit nhl contributing player. |

Yea, Valarmov is pretty good so far in a few games. Sorokin has started most of their games and he is average so far this year. |

Only supposed contender that is worse off right now is Edmonton. That is a 5 alarm dumpster fire. They're going to have to go on an absolute tear to just make the playoffs. |

They have a bd GM is the huge problem. Shocked he hasnt been canned yet.
They are better off selling what they can then start fresh so to speak. Obviously keep the 2 big fish. That may piss both those 2 off however. |

Based on what? Because he’s the loudest? He’s the mouthpiece for the 2 guys above him, doing the dirty work and taking the flak. A coach isn’t going to strong arm the GM and pres to do anything. He’s a perfect scapegoat for Danny to do what he wants with the team.
I think what people are in denial that Danny and Jonesy agree with him - black_francis
Torts wields a LOT of power in the organization. He's not "just" the coach and absolutely not a "mouthpiece". More than Danny becoming GM, the scales-tipper in balance of power was with Jonesy becoming POHO because he and Torts are in lockstep about most (not all, but most) hockey ops matters. It is very much the "triumvirate" that was described in the summer.

you would have to think this will all bubble up when they Flyers hit an extended rough patch, that is inevitable. DB could always make roster moves to force Torts, but that won't happen while winning and probably won't overall.
What you said makes sense "wield", folks with huge egos are more likely to be extreme when they have power. |

Wonder how long Danny will last with this arrangement. Seems more of a puppet for lack of a better word.
Good info Bill. Most thought it was that way. |

They're not making the playoffs in my opinion. Too big of a hole. They shouldn't panic and try and trade to save this season. If a smart move presents itself, make but otherwise work to improve internally and take the better draft pick.

So then you’d agree he’s not “running the show” and has Jonesy and Danny “in his back pocket” - they are in lockstep together for the most part - which is what I said in a previous post. Torts is just the one we hear from the most.
We are all here talking about Torts day in and day out rather than Jonesy and DB and I’m sure they prefer that. |
