Based on what? Because he’s the loudest? He’s the mouthpiece for the 2 guys above him, doing the dirty work and taking the flak. A coach isn’t going to strong arm the GM and pres to do anything. He’s a perfect scapegoat for Danny to do what he wants with the team.

I think what people are in denial that Danny and honest agree with him

- black_francis

What flak is Torts taking?

For the record, I stated on here before he was hired that I wanted Torts as the coach. I still don't think he's the coach to take them to be real contenders but this organization needed to reset and I think the team is more competitive then they've been in years because of his "ways".

However, I do think this organization can't get out of it's own way. If it's true that Doug Wilson was interested in the POHO job, and they hired Jonesy over him, that's ridiculous. Danny could have learned from someone like Wilson, he's not learning much from Jonesy.

.... and I don't believe Danny has the power to fire Torts. IMO, Jonesy would overrule him.

Are they really over achieving? Or if having a healthy Coots and Atkinson along with some steady growth from the young core behind the solid start? Add in they jettisoned some guys that needed to be sent packing….They seem more cohesive this year. They are playing more complete games to this point.
Will it last? I hope so. It’s a hell of a lot more likely that the young players we need to develop further do so in a somewhat competitive and winning atmosphere.

People keep looking at it from a traditional point of view. A coach wouldn't overstep his boundaries with a GM. In a normal situation, no. This isn't that. This is a 3 headed monster. A triumvirate of 3 equal branches of government. Hiferty is on record in saying Tortorella is their leader. No serious hockey executive that was interested in the job was willing to take it based on the hierarchy that Hilferty put in place. That the PHOP would not have complete control and final say. That's how they wound up with Jones.
By the way, the same people who are saying that I'm wrong about this are the same crew who refused to believe the issues with the old guard and the interference with the "country club". We know how that turned out. Well documented.

He's one step away from referring to himself in the third person like Babs.

It's cool to have a personal code and operate on a set of beliefs but it's dangerous believe in your own ideas so much that you become rigid and inflexible.

As Bill said, the man has developed some significant blind spots.

I don't recall that. I do recall some thinking it was dumb the way the team devalued a guy who made the all star team to the point where they could barely give him away.

It seems pretty clear Torts is the alpha in this group.

Does the Flyers winning start to the season upend the plan for a rebuild? Is this a franchise that loses when it should win and wins when it should lose? Was it ever a rebuild? We all know Fletcher sold us a bill of goods 2 summers ago with his BS “aggressive retool” so has the Triumvirate done the same with a different word this year? Is this team for real or just smoke and mirrors? Can Torts continue to get this type of overachieving production for an entire year?

Or, are the Flyers back to being what they’ve been for over a decade now, a perennial bubble team with no hope to go far in the playoffs and no hope to add new elite talent moving forward?

i do not want to trade hart. TK i would if there was a good offer. Not saying he is easily replaced, but could potentially bring a lot back. He may play this way deep into his 30's. but his style of play and his size....usually players like this fall off as they age. Understand your viewpoint though.

atkinson is next year

- Peter Richards

I could see TK fitting in well in Detroit. They have the cap room, the players and picks to make the move.

Edmonton really needs a goalie.

Hurts looking like Prescot, jus5 can't help himself with giving the other team the ball.

Maybe give Briere a full year on the job before some of these hot takes. He has had one offseason to work. It’s absolutely crazy how these narratives are taking hold because he didn’t blow up the team a month into the job and isn’t firing Torts because of Morgan Frost.

It's the pressure. Eagles are getting beat at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. He had to rush the throw. If there is protection, it was a TD.

What impressed me is they stopped the run and Mahomes often had to go to 3rd/4rth reads.

I hear you! I've been saying the same thing. Give DB a chance before we call him a bust that is being manipulated by the evil Torts. DB might not be the answer but I'm willing to see what he can do after at least a full year or so. Of course, he is a former Flyer, so that already gets him in the doghouse. I want Frosty playing, but no way should he be a measuring stick for the crucifixion of DB.
