Pettersson more or less valuable than Pastrnak? Pasta makes 11.25

Petey is a C, got Selke votes, is 2 years younger
Pasta has better goal scoring touch

- NorthNuck

Pastrnak. 2022/23 61 goals 113pts
Only 8/11.25m cuz a winger & the best in the league at that.

How much are votes worth?

2yrs younger only leads to a short term contract so cash in one last time later on.

I mean, he got over 100 points last year.

Obviously you would use that internal cap in negotiations to help bring the number down. But it's not even close to a 1 to 1 comparison with either guy. Hughes got paid before he was who he is today, Miller is over 30.

- NorthNuck

The better question is RIGHT NOW who to build around Petey or Hughes?

Lastly no 30yr old is bringing it like Miller in all facets of the game. Age knock is a fans go to & he’s proving that wrong it on the ice every game. There are very few power C’s to around something nobody mentions.

It’s a no brainer the Norris is far more important & harder to win than the Selke.

Only thing youth on Petey’s side has to do with anything is a longer runway. No guarantees until he can carry a team that he’s worth one of the leagues top contracts. He can do it but plenty is still to be done.

Now a Hart trophy deserves the big deal & he’s in the hunt but chasing teammates as it stands. Imo

As a 24 year old he did that. There is still a mountain of upside potentially.

I really don't know why people are hung up about the compatibles on this team. It's going to be league comparables. With that being said, Hughes took long term security for his contract. Petey took a show me. Hughes would be getting a fortune if he was up this summer. Petey will get paid more than those guys because he played his hand better.... unless he stinks the rest of the season but I doubt that.

Petey certainly played his hand better & will probably make more overall in his career. Hughes is more team oriented & his play shows it & a huge reason why he wears the C.

Miller only just arrived as a defensively sound player... in this early season. His reputation during the rest of his career was anything but. Petey has been the better at this most of his career.

You've been on a soap box since the Ottawa game. A game that he still scored 3 points in but you were ripping into him. The night where in the postgame, RT said Petey was playing hurt.... yet you stepped up higher and higher on the soap box every day since. You are being very unreasonable. Petey is a better player than you are giving him credit for. He only turned 25 a week ago. Let's talk about who was the better player when he reaches Miller's age lol... Miller will be forgotten as just a late blooming good player while Petey will be holding Canuck records and among the best that ever played here.

Sh!t, Petey was better than Miller in their playoff run even. I don't know how you think it's fair to compare Miller's small sample size against Petey's longer standing as a complete player. A bigger sample size. This ongoing whining about Petey not being the best on the team is silly anyways. We get it... you are sky high over Miller. Fair enough. Handle it like an adult.

Why does it have to be one?

I've been saying for years, build around Petey, Hughes and Demko. All these fanboy arguments always seem to divide the players and fans in their concept. It seems so pointless.

I'd like to think the leadership group should carry each other and the team. I doubt it's something both sides use as a measuring stick in a negotiation. Unless negotiations will be held on Twitter that is....

Petey +3 for 15th tied with Friedman & Suter on the team.

That isn’t getting any Selke votes.
Isn’t worth or getting 12m.
More like 4/10.25m

Now if he wasn’t playing hurt for 19 games just imagine our own Gretzky running away with the scoring race.

PA seems like no dummy & not gonna pay him McD AM nor MacK money.

Miller earned & took 7/8m for security. You know he was worth more than that on say 5yrs. That in itself allowed cap for Hronek & UFA’s.

Petey doesn’t have to worry about money. Should focus on winning & success & it will take care of itself.

Want to win you sign a fair contract. Prove you mean what you say.

+\- has nothing to do with Selke, it’s a dinosaur stat that has no relevance

No relevance to the nerds maybe, but to the professional players and coaches, it is very relevant. Doubt too many players check out what their PDO or corsi numbers are.

Bingo besides tied for 15th in +/- on a high PDO team is a double whammy. Sure Petey is racking up points but the eye test shows he’s not leading the team like many others are. Hot & cold ain’t cutting it. He’s not the main driver on the PP or even close. I’m sure he’ll pick up his game but not to the tune of top money next contract.

that’s who it matters to the least. They all rush to their phones to check +/- good one, I needed a chuckle

I think on a game-to-game it matters to players, or at the extreme at seasons end.. but I don't think they truly care about it. As for +/- and Selke voting... the writers vote on that, and generally they're much more nerdy than the players and coaches so I'm assuming they actually look at Corsi and PDO

You obviously haven't ever heard Quinn Hughes talk about +/-, as he would bring it up regularly, when he was heavily in the minuses, or has a bad -4 game, he doesn't bring up useless stats like PDO.

Waits for lecture on how I don't understand numbers or the other go to, you have to read all the stats evaluate them as a group.

Looks like GM Nighty was on a roll last night, he’s going to grind everyone to keep the cap under control.
Sorry but Peterson is getting 12 minimum, didn’t you read my 10 bold predictions for the Canucks?

Ovechkin was horrified by his +/- a few seasons ago but ya, players don't care about it.
