Tampa 6-2 over Carolina. Already in a playoff spot and Vasi is back. Does the resident know it all still think they are likely to not make the playoffs.

A well constructed team.
They lose their most important player didnt fall back much

We dont.
But we simply cannot have $45m tied up in 4 forwards.
Specially if we have to sign McDavid in 2 years

So either willie or marner will have to go eventually. Even if JT and willie switch cap hits in a years time.

They don’t have to lose either of them. With Willie at $10.5M, they can give Liljegren a raise, bring up Minten or a Marlie for the 4th line and you have almost $20M to replace or extend Bertuzzi, Domi, Sami, Brodie and Gio.

He tagged and, frankly, beat the poop out of a guy that looked to be visibly a lot bigger than him.

It's been basically 8 wasted years of an elite C to build around, and why some of us wanted this core broken up many years ago. But the Kreskins in here know better and like their 'nice things' too much.

But it doesn’t matter what any of us think or say in here. We’re not the ones making the decisions.

I wouldn’t mind moving Marner.

But a Makar/Hughes/Point/Petterson has to be coming back.

If they move Willy you’ll be getting a very good player, but I’d prefer to target a prospect. Get Lane Hutson or Brandt Clarke. Focus on rebuilding the culture for another year and position the team to be able to sign McDavid.

That’s how the fairytale story ends. McDavid comes home, Lord Stanley comes home.

The notion that breaking up the core and its a fail proof plan to improve the team is a large assumption and gamble. It's more likely such a move or moves woukd end in regret than success because it's not unrealistic to believe they would be passing along the best player in the trade.

Its not fail proof at all, but we do know what hasnt worked so far.
Its not necessarily about getting the best player in the trade, but more about creating cap space, getting picks, getting a new look or spreading out the talent.
Or if the cap goes up a lot, keep them together. See if we can get a different result.
But they may llose out on McDavid

It would be a fear-based blunder advocated for by your flimsier Leaf fan. Some would have traded him for any journeyman Dman, and he'd be having this MVP year elsewhere while they blamed Keefe
