The lack of communication in our own zone is just stunning at this level.
It has to start with the coach but there are also several players on this team that seem to lack awareness/hockey IQs. - keaner17
All of a sudden?(this season) Serious question. |

These are not a bunch of 18-year-old dmen that should be struggling. I'm fine with replacing the coach, but these players should know better. |

Tito traded to the Hawks for a 5th.

Beau was really good during those playoff runs. |

When this team plays offensive, they struggle to keep the goals against down. No question the team had success under Barry's system, but the players do not seem to want to go back to that system and there is a conflict. Islanders were a great defensive team under Barry but were not a complete team. This team has not shown the ability to play any style to become a great team. If the goal is to win it all, it's very hard to do only being able to play one style. At this point, the Islanders can try to play a style like Barry, I'm not sure they can pull it off. |

What I’ve been watching for going on three years has been offensive. |

They all deserved to come back like the players. Obviously.

Have to think Lou wants to make a move, but then all attention turns to Lou with a coaching change. |

Truth is, the isles aren’t talented enough to not play a Trotz defensive system. That was something that I noticed under uncle Barry. When he arrived the blown third period leads stopped. When the isles got up a goal they locked it down and got the 2 pts. We’re 1/4 of the way in and this blown third period lead has happened 6 or 7 times now. It’s not going to miraculously change. They need to shake things up now, and the quick fix to get something going is getting rid of the coaching. |

The time to have revamped the coaching staff was end of last year. 0 for 22 on the PP with zero adjustment was reason enough. Are any of us surprised right now?!?! $35 Moscow mules….same old isles |

I’m not sure they are talented enough to play Barry’s system when you have a pair like Mayfield and Aho. Barry had more to work with than Lane especially with Leddy and Toews. Team was also younger back then and more willing to play a strict defensive system. What coach can be hired that teaches Barry’s system? |

The entire point of Barry’s system being implemented was due to then not having the talent to compete offensively. It’s a system that’s built on work not talent. |

The isles were blasted as boring under Barry for playing the trap. The players (I’d bet Barzal) obviously wanted more open ice and ability to create. They’re just not talented to NOT have more structure defensively. Lou dropped the ball on the backend and with the first line. Backend is too young and inexperienced and the isles still, decades later, don’t have an NHL calibur first line. |

1000%. Only now, they’ve digressed in talent, and don’t play the trap. So yeah 6 or 7 blown 3rd period leads sounds about right early in |

Um… But you said they don’t have the talent to play Barry’s system in your post no? I think it’s more they don’t have the work ethic plus it’s not what is being implemented(of course). This lineup is stale. Has been for a few years now. That’s the real problem but the issue is Lou has now double downed on it so here we are with this lineup minus clutterbuck and Martin for the foreseeable future and beyond. |

No I said (or at least meant) that the isles don’t have the talent to rely on run and gun style hockey. They’re a team of 2nd and 3rd liners. They need to play a trap in order to sneak out wins. That’s the elephant in the room here. No one wants to admit (Lou) the isles have an inferior roster talent wise. In order to combat that lackluster roster you gotta play a boring trap style, or you else you run the risk of blown third period leads all season…. |

Takes a lot of effort and commitment to play Barry’s system. I think a new coach can help, but the question is how much he can turn things around. |

The coach may, and probably will, ultimately take the fall for this and rightfully so. But this team's issues are so much more than that. Mayfield, in year 1 of a mind-numbingly stupid 7 year extension, looks entirely lost most nights.
Feels like a coaching change could be coming sooner than later. May as well do it sooner and give this team a wake up call if they have any sort of semi-delusional thoughts that they could compete for anything this year. |

At least there was a surprise. I expected them to blow the lead and lose in overtime but, lo and behold, they managed to blow it and lose in regulation!
