Not sure. I was going to take a "maintenance day" of sorts today and work from the house, since I'm a tad under the weather and there's a morning skate and home game, a practice, a home game and another practice the rest of this week.

Tortorella is still slated to speak today.

There will be rebuilding in Philly one way or another. When whatever this is fails, the fans will force one. They have nothing to sell. The Black Friday game was mainly rangers fans.

They've survived this long. With the exception of short period of time, they've operated the same way all along. What will force them to accept the reality? They've been dysfunctional for how long now?

Has anyone read the Inquirer article about Jones and what he has to say about Morgan Frost? It is behind a paywall for me and I refuse to pay for that trash.

It would be fine if they were actually rebuilding and let him take all the abuse while the team stinks but there hasn’t been any evidence at all that Briere is rebuilding. It’s early in the season and he deserves a trade deadline and another draft before we can accurately judge but talking about resigning Walker is a very very bad sign.
- psuhockey

Both Tortorella and Briere have recently talked about owing it to the players to try and win. We know Jones is in lockstep with Tortorella. They're not rebuilding. Their focus is on winning.

Hockey relies a ton on ticket sales. The Flyers are not creating new fans in any real numbers. Eventually enough die hards will get fed up not to come that will really hurt the bottom line.

There is no rebuild happening in Philly, but extending a 29 year old dman for 3 or 4 years instead of trading him for picks would make it even more obvious.

The rebuild is over and was essentially a locker room issue that has been solved by sticking with the guys that love to play together. Jones loves Tortorella and thinks he has done a great job. Morgan Frost has done a lot of great things and is a big part of their future. A lot of players will come in and out of the lineup. Cedes to Tortorella on this.

He says a whole lot of nothing. He is a trained PR person.

They've generated enough attendance through the past decade. They think that what they're doing is the way to increase it. No what, from that standpoint, they're right. All they have to do is compete for the playoffs. Make it a few times and the fans will keep coming. It will never be bad enough for them to change philosophy.

I don’t believe a word any of these people say but we will all find out definitively on the trade deadline. If this is all true everyone can pack it in and come back in 6-8 years when everyone’s fired and we can do it all over again. Unfortunately Michkov not coming over for another few years will give these guys more time on the job then they would normally deserve.

they're just a mediocre team that will easily get bounced even if they make the playoffs. It's nothing exciting to cheer for

Morning Bill. Lets switch it up today for discussion purposes.

1. Name a player or two you think the Flyers may try to acquire.

2. Name a player or two you heard they like and may go after.

Ryan Reeves and Tom Wilson, because they play hockey the way Torts likes and they’re grizzled veterans… perfect for the Triumvirate’s big rebuild. They can have Brink and Frosts spots.

On Frost:
“We think he’s a big part of our future”

“…we just want to make sure that Morgan continues to feel like he’s a big part of our future because we believe that he is”

Jones said that he and DB have both dealt with being benched and he’s proud of the way Frost has handled it. He said that while they discuss the lineup with Torts daily it’s Torts decision who plays. He also said that they trust Tort’s decisions because he’s been around a long time.

Other tidbits:

They are playing better than expected because of the awesome dynamic they have fostered in “the room”

He compared the Flyers’ management team relationship to that of McPhee and McCrimmon in Vegas.

They are in no rush to move any of the kids from the Phantoms up anytime soon.

"jonesy" has mentioned Vegas from day 1 he was hired. That is who they want to be today. Who they want to emulate.

A player who is a big part of the future doesn't get scratched in 50% of the games.

Good on Jones for comparing to the Stanley Cup champs. Delusional.

They must think people are stupid.

Well isn’t that a self-promoting pie in the sky backslap… comparing the Flyers front office to that of the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. And all this time we all thought “he’s a good guy to have in the room” had nothing to do with the talent level or execution on the ice. How silly. Perhaps if Edmonton got rid of McJesus and Leon D, for ND, Hathaway, Staal, and Laughton they could make it over the hump.

My opinion is they will not do any meaningful selling at all.

What's your gut tell, Walker ext or trade?

On a side note this will very very likely not happen, just for some odd reason see them looking into Huberdeau.

Yeah, him and Couturier can grow old together. That would be a disaster trade on top of a what is already a disaster signing. Nothing like doubling down, which the Flyers do to perfection...

Hilferty is just a Dave Scott clone. He is to blame for this ludicrous triumvirate idea.

No doubt. It’s all about the room. The Flyers are building a championship quality room. I hear ND takes young players to dinner. That’s the kind of awesome leadership he provides off the ice.

Those that have played the game know the value that he brings to the ice and the room. Those that have never played, will never get it.

Then fold the franchise and start over?

How else are they gonna convince every other team to give them the free players and boatload of picks that Vegas used to git gud?
