Hilferty is just a Dave Scott clone. He is to blame for this ludicrous triumvirate idea. - StepfordSam
Hilferty is a (frank)ing bean counter, he doesn’t give a damn about the team. All he wants is a team that can squeak into the playoffs. That will keep the stands relatively full, sell merch and get them a little playoff revenue.
This team will never change because Comcast isn’t about to sell it and they don’t care about the on ice performance, just the bottom line. |

On Frost:
“We think he’s a big part of our future”
“…we just want to make sure that Morgan continues to feel like he’s a big part of our future because we believe that he is”
Jones said that he and DB have both dealt with being benched and he’s proud of the way Frost has handled it. He said that while they discuss the lineup with Torts daily it’s Torts decision who plays. He also said that they trust Tort’s decisions because he’s been around a long time.
Other tidbits:
They are playing better than expected because of the awesome dynamic they have fostered in “the room”
He compared the Flyers’ management team relationship to that of McPhee and McCrimmon in Vegas.
They are in no rush to move any of the kids from the Phantoms up anytime soon. - Dkos
I do not have a big problem with this because they would only bench other kids. But please for the love of God make sure the idiot down there plays them. He refuses to play Avon and Gendron in the same game. One of them has to be benched in favor of guys named Furry, Belurive(?), Polei, basically guys from nowhere and going nowhere. |

Those that have played the game know the value that he brings to the ice and the room. Those that have never played, will never get it.
- MJL
spill the beans cliff, did you play any high level youth, junior, or college hockey? Inquiring minds want to know?
my guess probably A level for the quakers in west chester. |

Don’t blame Comcast, blame the fans who still buy tickets. They have the biggest say in how this team is run. You get the team the fans deserve. |

Honestly, does it make sense to say that the fans deserve a bad team because they go to the games?

Yes. They are the people keeping the whole enterprise in business. If you want change stop buying the same crap sandwich. |

Fans who go to the games and support the team. Deserve the opposite. They deserve a quality product on the ice. You've got it backwards.

Pretty much how it has been since Snider past away. Guy at the top isn't a hockey guy at all. Just a corporate stooge earning a pay check he doesn't deserve. |

The fans in the end control the team especially for hockey that relies on gate receipts more so than the other big sports. If every season ticket holder refuses to re up unless Torts is fired Torts is fired. It’s that simple. |

That's conflating issues. It's one thing to speculate and suggest that if everyone stopped going to the games, that it could cause change. It's a whole other thing to suggest that the fans are to blame for the way the team operates. Shame on them if they just want to reach a certain level of revenue and profit versus legitimately wanting to win.

I knew this joke of a franchise was going to pull the plug on a full rebuild. Torts probably crying saying "we are one or two players away from making the playoffs lets see who's available" and DB and Jonesy saying the same BS.
At this point they should all be fired or follow thru with the rebuild. This halfass approach has gone on too long.
On defense
Walker
Seeler
Staal
check the market for Sanheim
On Offense
TK
Laughton
Atkinson
check the market for Farabee & Coots (although i think Coots to Boston in the off season works)
last but not least
Cater Hart, he contract demands will not be in line with the future of this franchise, so trade him for picks.
We trade these players and a full rebuild has started anything less is another joke for 10 years and I am too old to watch this poop for another 10 years.

If the fans don’t demand more for their money then they get the bare minimum required to bring them back. Only in sports are the people who fund the entire enterprise somehow absolved from blame. |

Hilferty is very different from Dave Scott. He's around the room, a lot. Knows all the players on sight by name. Does he care about the bottom line? Of course, and he should. But he also has a very good interpersonal touch.
I can you, 100 percent for a fact, that there's a much happier and more optimistic atmosphere throughout the entire organization and that it has as much -- or more -- to do with Hilferty and some departures of disliked figures as it does with the hockey ops overhaul. Dave Scott is a nice man but he didn't get some of the things that made the Flyers a place people wanted to be and hated to leave.
There are many things about the Flyers rebuild where the jury is out. Hiring Hilferty so far, at least internally, has been a home run. |

Bill, all of those things are nice if you play for the team or work there. How does that help the team towards a goal of winning the Stanley Cup. It's already ridiculously easy to assess the front office structure and hierarchy as a complete loser. Based on comments by all three of the triumvirate. I'm already confident in stating that all three need to be replaced and a more traditional management structure needs to be put in place.

Regarding some other comments made in today's thread:
* Don't assume the Phantoms' game-by-game lineups are determined the same way that the Flyers are. They're not.
* The Phantoms playing different systems than the Flyers because Tortorella said he wants the AHL coaches to have the freedom to determine their own and is totally fine if they don't closely replicate what Tortorella and staff do. So that was Torts' call. If the org wanted the Phantoms to employ Flyers' systems, they would.

That's a separate issue from how Hilftery's hiring has been taking shape internally. But, yes, fans should focus on hockey ops and how that is/will be doing.
I'm simply responding to the notion that Dave Scott was sent into retirement and a clone was brought it. That couldn't be further from the truth. If it was true, I wouldn't say much of anything about it. |

this is an organizational failure Bill.
Why have a player potentially struggle when he is called up do to different systems? That isn't the best way to develop imo. You want to make it as seamless as possible no? So again Torts is running the franchise more so than others. |
